Hello all, thought I'd join a forum to see what fellow bikers talk about, hear about their experiences and hopefully gain (and add) valuable knowledge and opinions about our machinery ! I've ridden bikes of various make, manufacturer and (often dubious) quality and size, for over 40 years, rain or shine, warm or cold in my younger days but more inclined to fair weather now. If we are talking Triumphs, I've owned several including a 955 Daytona, 1700 Thunderbird Storm, 1050 Street Triple, 900 Thruxton and currently, a 1200 T120 LC Bonneville. I recently bought the latter after 4 years of Harley Dyna Lowrider ownership - owning a HD had been on my 'list of things to have' for many years and I have to say, I enjoyed every minute (although it was stage 2 tuned and went very well, it still didn't stop or go round corners, even with upgraded 6 pots and Hagons !!) Anyway, I like the Bonneville and have no regrets - first job has been to fit an X-pipe and Remus slip ons - I fitted these myself and would suggest anybody considering doing this to take your time and have a go yourself - It's within the capabilities of any home spannerman - just research the YT tutorials before you start - it will also save you a couple of hundred quid labour charge at the dealers and pay for other goodies ! I also plan to fit the booster plug. There are other mods I'd like to make, mainly fitting alloy fenders and changing the blinkers and rear light set up for something more 'Lucas' - I don't want to go down the tail tidy route and it's limiting my options. But that's a question for the section where good folk, who give up their time to offer much appreciated help and advice hang out ! So for now, happy fettling and roll on spring and summer ........
Grumps Welcome to the family good intro and seems you may be another asset on here. Do hit the upload a file button and show the inmates the bikes. I to fitted an x pipe but promptly removed it as i didn't like the noise. So just went for pipes and now love it. Joe.
Hi Joe and thanks ! When I work out how to even use the forum properly, I will indeed try and upload an image of the bike lol ! As for the noise - well after 4 years of riding a 1550 tuned V Twin with V&H BIg Shots - it shouldn't be problem
Grumps No i don't think it will. I had three Wide Glide back to 81. Loved all of them. Didn't like Vance & Hynes 's On my second bike i had them and ask if they could replace the mounting bracket they were downright unhelpful and said they didn't supply brackets but would sell me a complete system. As for the x pipe it was just me as most people love them i just didn't but i did fit mine with the oem cans so maybe that was the problem. But i do like the sound now so won't be fitting again. And you will be up to speed soon. It is a great forum and some well most peeps are fantastic here. Joe.
Joe, if I could've justified having both, I wouldn't have sold it even though it vibrated like a jack-hammer. It didn't help that it had undergone headwork and cams / porting etc. It smoothed out when you gave it some but was hard work pottering around ! It just wanted to go - but then it wouldn't stop that well. Handling was ok until the pegs got the better of you - I really like feeling involved when riding and I like a bike with character - hence the x pipe / Remus / Noise etc. It doesn't help when my main riding buddies both ride Rocket 3's ! Needless to say, I prefer the HD and and my Bonneville over them, nice as they are.
Grumps Same here. Yes i wish i still had my wide glide. I loved it and strangely the last one i had about 98 / 99 didn't vibrate all that much. I put a bigger sprocket on it and and siliconed all the mounts and bars. But i do miss the Harley and would another tomorrow. But yes i see where you are coming from. These days i just like slow and fun. Joe.
Grumps That Dyna i love it. I thought they had mid controls. Love the Bonnie aswel. It will get full approval here in the asylum as they do like black bikes one of the favourite colours. Thanks for sharing. Now i wan a wide glide in my head. Joe.
Joe. They do - I fitted the forward controls (Drag Specialities) as I found the mids a bit cramped - I fitted fat boy pull back bars too and made the whole thing more comfortable (for me at least) - The runaround single seat replaced the OEM - which didn't matter due to my good lady not being too keen on anything above 28mph - anything faster and her screams drown out the sound of the exhaust so she doesn't don the leathers very often !! I imagine you'll be browsing the classifieds now lol.
Grumps Think i better stop talking to you or my good lady will be screaming divorce Even though we are not married but my garage is bloody cold for sleeping in. But i do love your dyna and keep going back for a look. Joe.
Greetings, Grumps, and welcome to the forum. Thanks for your great intro and also for the photos of your T120 Bonnie and that H-D Dyna Lowrider. It that your former Lowrider? Sounds like you either sold it or traded it for the T120. What year is it? I'm a Triumph AND a Harley person, too. I've had two Low Riders--a 2017 Dyna Low Rider S and a 2020 Softail Low Rider S. Loved 'em both. Now I have a Street Glide Special and a Fat Boy. And of course a Triumph! Mine's a 2019 Speed Triple RS. Hope you enjoy the forum. There are lots of helpful, knowledgable, interesting, entertaining folks to be met in this community.
Hi Sandi, Thanks ! Alas it is my 'former' Lowrider and I did indeed trade it for the T120 - for no other reason than I'd had 4 years of fun, had made all the engine and cosmetic mods I felt it needed (to suit me of course) and the time came to move back on to another Triumph. It was a 2006, Dyna Lowrider, the first of the 6 speeders - it was also my first HD and I would certainly not rule out owning another. You're lucky to have the best of both worlds, for sure - and the good weather to ride them !! My biggest issue now is finding somewhere to keep my old Harley T-Shirts until the time comes to buy another HD
