Congrats on it being recovered, I must admit that I wasn't expecting it to be seen ever again.

Best advice I can offer is:

Forget steering locks, U locks, chains, alarms and immobilisers etc.

The best security for your bike is you, either on it or stood next to it wielding a baseball bat, never leave it anywhere even for a few seconds.

 

If you find the little scrot best advice I can give is rear sprocket, drive chain, and the scrots fingers I will leave what happens next up to your imagination.

 

The harshest punishment would be to remove access to their benefits and force them do get a proper honest job.

This would however probably contravene their human rights

 

I would like to meet face to face with them at the Police Station and see them. Good to know who they are. You never know.

 

Good news! Time to invest in some better bike security once you get it all fixed up. Steel chain to cemented floor anchor with alarm.

 

Not sure the supermarket it was outside would appreciate that too much buddy

 

Oh, ha ha ha. At the very least get one of those motion detecting disc brake locks. I have one and it's quite loud.

I don't always use my disc lock, either, but motorcycle theft in broad daylight isn't that common where I live.

Good to hear it's been recovered. If the thieving bastards were ever caught it would just be a slap on the wrist and a community sentence. Most criminals will see the crap sentences as a joke and part of the job, but if they were all forced to pay back the victims in full. Insurance companies included, then the sentence may be more effective. I know most won't be able to pay it back, but an attachment to any wages or benefit will affect them directly. For some crimes they will be paying it back for the rest of their lives. If they have ANY asserts like houses, cars bikes then they should all be sold to go towards the debt. Make it NOT pay to be a lifetime criminal. Rant over!

 

Good news, pleased for you! I've had a few bikes nicked over the years. I ran out of petrol on my RD400 in the late 70s on a very quiet country lane about 2 miles from my house, typically at the bottom of a steep hill late at night. So walked home and went back next morning carrying petrol can... bikes gone! Turned up in a police raid on a bike breakers, sprayed in primer, got it back from the insurance company cheap, restored it myself, got nicked again, thief crashed it whilst running from police.
He was a well known scumbag, the coppers were great and on the qt..gave me his name and address and I had the great pleasure of giving him a proper hiding on his doorstep..he cried like a baby I had my XT 500 nicked twice, found both times a few hundred yards from my house as the chumps couldn't start it.
The biggest heartbreak was my beloved guzzi 750 S3...stolen and never seen again. They don't punish these light fingered bastards enough. He'll probably get a "community resolution order" = a slap on the wrist, these vermin need proper punishment.

 

In 19th century America, I believe they used to hang horse thieves.

Motorbikes are the 21st century equivalent. We could learn a thing or two from 19th century America.
