Welcome to the family. Yes drop your query in the technical section. Also ask @darkman. And if he can't help you i am sure its wrong or can't be done. Do give as much info on the bike as possible. And hit the upload a file button bottom right corner and put as many pictures as possible. As you know a picture speaks a thousand words. Good luck by the way.

    Thanks for the note
I will take some photographs of the parts manual and the part itself to explain better. Regards. Julian

With the retaining bolt removed and the speedo drive slid forward the seal should just drop into the slot in the drive unit and slide back in the gearbox case.

thank you for the reply and information.
    I have tried your suggestion.
As the rubber seal makes contact with the gearbox, it will not go in unless tapped in, which then shears off the excess rubber on the seal.

So the rubber seal may be oversize
It may be this is what is supposed to happen
But without someone replying who has done this beforehand I can’t say for certain

Its quite normal for a small amount of rubber to peel off but just by spitting on the rubber before installing it helps and also you can asist it going in with a small screw driver blade or cut a slice from a plastic container, also deburing the edge of the housing in the gearbox.

well at least I now understand the rubber washer is ok to use.
The idea of chamfering the hole is excellent in conjunction with easing the rubber in with a small screwdriver sounds good. Will give it a go and report back in a couple of days
    Regards
