Hey all, this topic spans multiple areas so wasn't sure where it was supposed to go, apologies to the admins if it's in the wrong area.

Being a sports bike owner for the last 12 years I thought I'd just pick people's brains about any good advice regarding kit and accessories for a first time owner. I realise that's a broad question but in terms of what my plans are so far :

    The bike itself...

Will have the Triumph Expedition top box fitted when I pick it up as well as heated grips and hand guards.

Engine bars are a definite addition I'll be putting on as will a head light cover and eventually some panniers.

    For me....

I tend to ride quite sensibly anyway in terms of clothing so currently rattling around in a fairly expensive Wolf set of textiles with Outlast inner liner. Alpinestars 365 goretex gloves and Sidi ST goretex boots.

Helmet is an Arai RX7 GP so it's not the most quiet lid to wear so I'd appreciate recommendations there as I have a Bluetooth kit to go in it but there's no room.

Anything else people think is a good idea or a "must have"?

    Thanks in advance.

    Paul.

Hi Paul, you don't say what bike you have/going to have and you don't say what you plan to do with it?

For example, what is your idea of an Adventure? Going over the curbs to get to the shops or taking 2 years to go around the world?

Sorry chaps I forgot that not everyone will have seen my newbie post, apologies.

It is (will be) a 2016 Explorer XR, mostly road riding but planning on some fairly long trips with it if I can. No plans (currently) for off road or trail stuff.

    :)

I put a Givi top box on mine. Much bigger than the triumph one, holds 2 full face helmets and is a good match with the panniers. (And a lot cheaper).

I also installed a double USB charger in it as well, very useful for keeping my phone charged up.

I also went for a S W Motech Bags Connection QUICK LOCK GS TANK BAG as it follows the shape of the tank well. Plus it got good reviews. I liked the triumph one but the Motech gives me the option to move it to another bike in the future as the Triumph bag requires a harness to attach it.

You will most likely want a satnav at some point. I would recommend buying the Triumph mount as it is very sturdy and positions the satnav right where you want it, just above the clocks. A bit expensive but worth it. I went for the Garmin Zumo 590 and am very happy with it.

Thanks fella's! I have an Interphone waterproof phone holder for my iPhone which will mount straight on so for now that will do as I can't really justify a new satnav right now.

Love the look of the SW Motech bag with the quick lock so thanks for that!

I have the very tank bag Rooster is recommending peejay and it's going on eBay within the next hour. I've bought 4 bags from Motohaus over the years, all SW Motech Bags Connection as they are superbly made and so simple to pop on and off the bike. I'm selling the GS model as it's way too big for my everyday needs.... it was a mistake buying this one :(

Welcome to the forum btw :)

I assume that the Wolf trousers have CE approved hip armour fitted? If not and it has the pockets for it definitely fit some. If no pockets for it then consider getting some armoured shorts from Knox (or similar). They offer fantastic protection and can be worn under other trousers or (like me) kevlar jeans.
