This is my first season with A license, bought a 1050 RS '19 in early July. Only rode MX before that. Also ride a ZX12R, and had a ZX6R before that, sold it. I'm from Norway. Next year I want to go to Isle of Man and ride on the unrestricted road.
Welcome to the forum and hope you enjoy your Speed Triple. What time of year are you planning your visit to the Isle Of Man (IOM), you mention you want to ride on the unrestricted roads, however whilst many sections of roads are unrestricted there are strict laws to enforce a number of offences, the Manx Police take a very dim view for example overtaking on solid white lines, or using the opposite side of the road when riding/driving, also during the TT fortnight, Classic TT and MGP temporary speed limits are put in place, on the mountain section and coast road the speed limit is 50 MPH maximum, the mountain section is also one way for the TT fortnight. However for the S100 the temporary speed limit reverts back to unrestricted. It gets very very busy during the TT fortnight and you need to be aware of all manner of examples of poor riding and driving. Personally I give the mountain section a miss during the TT. Ride safe all.
Thanks for the welcomes @Iceman Yeah, I realize there are still rules and that you have to ride responsibly. What time of year do you recommend for experiencing the unrestricted sections? Barring any covid travel issues I can take time off when I want. Of course, I would have liked to watch TT, but I can see it might not be ideal to get to do both on the same trip. I will be going to simply tour as well, take in the sights and roads, have a few pints, not only to go fast
@Bikerman I am enjoying the bike, but unfortunately I have that slipping clutch problem occassionally, hopefully it is just the lever issue...
Bikerfaen Welcome to the family. Great bike. just get used to it before the Isle Of Man then you will enjoy the roads better. You need to be there for mad Sunday. Not even sure they have it anymore due to accidents one of which was myself. But enjoy the bike and the asylum here the inmates do like pictures and you are of to a great start with the great intro and fantastic picture. Joe
Greetings and welcome to the forum from another '19 Speed Triple owner, @Bikerfaen! Thanks for sharing a photo of your bike with us. Hope you enjoy the forum!
Thanks It's strange, but I have found getting used to the Speed Triple harder than I found with the ZX6R and ZX12R. Don't get me wrong, just cruising is great. But I'm not totally comfortable pushing it yet, I find when I do it can feel a bit unstable or twitchy, almost as if the wheelbase was very short. Not sure how to explain it properly. The wheelbase is about the same or even longer than my two other bikes I think. Maybe just the feeling that it reacts more responsively to my inputs than my two other bikes. It is also a very light bike, and something about the more upright, or sitting on top of seating position when compared to my other bikes, causes this sensation I think. It's for sure a very sporty bike, more so than people would believe at first glance. I haven't quite managed to dial in the suspension to a point I'm satisfied yet either.
Definitely get the suspension sorted as (for me at least) it transformed it from hard work to a pleasure. I have a busted scaphoid in my hand and it was frankly, awful as standard with the "jolts" (even set to "soft") but now? Great.
Hi Bikerfaen, If you wish to do some exploring on the IOM and watch some road racing, then I would suggest July for the Southern 100 (S100) race meeting, this is set on the public roads in Castletown, the races are a mass start and the roads are a lot narrower than on the TT course, the superbike class are a sight to behold around the course, the sidecar racing is epic, the practice starts on Monday evening and again on Tuesday, Wednesday evening sees both practice and racing, the Thursday sees all day racing, unlike a lot of the TT vantage points you can still get very very close to the action, the pits have an open and warm welcome to fans. Again unlike the TT the races run whatever the weather as the helicopter can take off and is not restricted by mist, which often occurs on the mountain section of the TT course. As practice for the S100 takes place in the evenings, often until 8.30pm, this leaves the days free to explore the delights of the IOM. If you are serious about a visit PM me nearer the time to your visit and I can arrange to meet you either at the ferry or the IOM, I can let you have contacts for accommodation etc., I can if you find it helps ask the S100 press secretary to e mail you any new information, updates and press releases. There are some excellent videos online for all the IOM road races. Mad Sunday will be a thing of the past I am afraid, the TT has a very ambitious programme for both practice and racing for TT 2022. The trouble is with a visit to the IOM you get really hooked, my first visit sealed it for me and I have been numerous times to date, most years in fact apart from the Foot and Mouth outbreak and Covid, however happy days we are back for visits again. Ride safe all.
Hi Bikerfaen and welcome to the forum suspension and tyre pressures change handling a lot at the pointy end of riding. I’m sure you will refine your riding pleasure on such a great ride
