Hi all I'm not quite qualified to be a forum member just yet - as need some help from you guy's please? After drooling over the Speed Triple for a while I'm about to go for a 2012 model - however changing bikes for me is always problematic as I've no right leg below the knee (old TL1000s 'incident')! I've ridden an R1 with a thumb brake but my days on supersports are done - just too cramped for me. For the last 5 years I've been modding the hell out of my Yam XSR700, but need something new & fresh to move on to. The XSR has always fitted me well - the seat height to the foot peg is 20". I've sat on the SP Triple at my dealer and it's just about 'doable' - but ideally I need to prob drop the pegs a little & increase the seat thickness Obviously the dealer won't go for this until I've paid! Therefore - as a guide for me to look at the adaptions I'll need, could one of the members let me know what the height is from the Speed Triple seat to the pegs? Hopefully its around 18-19" as I can play around with the above if so. Fingers crossed I can get it done - and will be on the forum again with a shiny Triple! Thanks

Hi all Thanks for the pointers - I've seen the vario peg adjusters and located a local seat upholsterer who can increase the seat for around £100 Off to the dealer Sat to check the heights - then its just getting the right deal! Will keep you posted Cheers

The variopeg footrests are multi adjustable but they move your feet outwards by approx 1 cm or so which makes gearchanges awkward due to not getting full feel of the lever and braking is the same too, catching the edge of the lever. Tried them on 2 bikes and took them back off again. Tried vario and Chinese versions with same results.
Hi, yes - I had them for a bit on the R1 but 'managed', however I managed to source some peg plates that I could use. Unfortunately I've not seen anything similar for the Triple so may have to go back to the vario Managed to get a quote on the seat - 2" thicker, covered and £120 all in
Welcome @GuySal I too am disabled with a right leg two inches shorter than intended due to an argument with a car in 1985. What is left of the leg is a bit of a mess. Everyone’s disability is different. I can still ride unmodifed bike if I can get one with a low seat (so I stand a chance of putting the short leg down if I can’t do a left foot stop). I’m interested to understand why you need to move the pegs? Can you describe your ridding style a bit more as I wonder if there is something that can be done about the way you ride to resolve the problem.
Hi Cyborgbot! The reason to move the pegs is to allow a bit more angle of my knee when bent - the prosthetic otherwise 'digs' into the back of the knee. Ideally a cruiser would be perfect - but my hearts always been sports bikes hence the compromise! Riding style - gone are the R1 / knee down antics. But that's more due to age! I've ridden my 700cc to 99% of what it's capable of so now is time for more HP and grunt. I've always fancied a Triumph and prefer the 'comfort' of a naked bike nowadays to the fully faired 1000cc rockets!
Oh, I can see how a high peg and bent leg riding position wouldn’t be practical (or comfortable). I hope you are able to get a solution that works for you.
Have you looked at the ktm superduke? They have a lot of leg room, especially the 1st and 2nd generations. Insane grunt from the big V-twin too, they'll have you giggling in your helmet
So - I went to the dealer. I've sat on a 2012 Speed and established I will need to increase the seat thickness by 2" to give me enough room / comfort. This means though that I wont have to mess about with the adjustable foot pegs etc! Also - the thumb brake I use that will be mounted on the clutch side of the bar means I'll also need to raise the bars by 1-2" as well. Hopefully by raising the seat & the bars the same(ish) heights, the handling should be more or less the same as standard. The bad part was the very low part ex value he offered me for my XSR700! I'm going to revert the XSR thumb brake back to the original foot brake - then list it on Bike Trader / fleabay / Facebook and sell privately over the autumn / winter. That way I'll have the cash to pick up a Striple when I see the right one! Will keep you posted - and thanks for all the above assistance guy's Cheers
I wish I lived more locally to be able lurk menacing over your shoulder as you negotiated the deal. Not that you needed it of course. Not that I’d be much use as I’m a mess myself… I don’t suppose they’d be intimidated by a disabled nerd. If I were the dealer I’d take the sale and mods as a challenge and just do it as the right thing. I hope they didn’t sting you too much for the mods? There’s another (current) live thread about selling a bike. It has been suggested that the webuyanybike brigade are actually offering good deals at the moment. It might be worth trying them - but do expect a bit of negotiation when you finalise the deal. I hope you get it sorted.
Hi There ! May I add my Best Wishes to all the other s you have rightly received from 'The Forum'.... A shoulder injury ( not bike related ) has kept me off my Bonnie ..... but pleased to say now in action again . My comment isn't directly related to your specific request for info , but this may be of interest to riders interested in screens / weather protection etc ... My Bonnie came with a Triumph screen approx 26cms 'tall' ..... I ride open face and wanted something at approx 40cms... A friend suggested I contact Skidmark Ltd based in Weymouth.... they specialise in screens and bike related bodywork... I e mailed them a couple of pics , and a note to say I wanted to retain the current high quality chrome fixings , so the bolt holes needed to match accurately to refit the new screen. A v helpful chap called Ian said he could help. I sent the short screen down and collected the taller one a few days ago. It fitted a treat , and I was v pleased with the quality , reasonable price etc . No buffeting / bugs in teeth at up to 70.... So , I my opinion a great firm to deal with.... This post may help other riders keen to keep some weather off as Winter approaches. Cheers !
