picking up my new xc this week and was interested to read of clatter over bumps which Triumph said to me was the top box slide mounting...hmm.. Will insist on them rechecking as I noticed this sound on a few test runs

it's true, the Triumph top box has a sliding carriage which does make a noise over bumps. There is a theory suggesting the sliding carriage is a 'good thing'. I got fed up with mine and bought a Givi monokey plate so I could fit my Trekker46 box instead. This is a better shape and saves 4kgs high up weight. Also it's a rigid mount which I prefer.

the other place that could rattle over bumps is the chain. The XC has more slack than the XR and I sometimes get chain rattling on my R.

Just my opinion I have a triumph tiger 800 2011 model. I thought it was my box too. But when I done some more investigation turns out it was my cam chain tensioner. Bike has just undergone shim and buckets re done - new cam chain tensioner also the throttle bodies have also been balanced. And the noise has now gone. All done under warranty but would have cost £400 + classed as major service.

    Hope this helps.

Hi Loz, do you have a centre stand fitted to the XC. It could be that clattering the underside of the swinging arm, it's a common problem.
    Mine included.
