765 500mi Or 600mi First Service

I changed the oil and filter at 600 miles and will do the same at
6,000 miles. I understand that the "service" icon/light in the dash
will light up at 6,000 and stay lit until reset by a dealership.
12,000 miles is when the first major service is required and which
requires a trained mechanic. I'm told that that service costs about
$1000 US.

 

For the ST765rs the first service is done at 500 miles, if you are completing the service work yourself then you need to keep the receipts for the parts, and only use OEM parts, failure to do so may well lead to any warranty work being refused. The service light can be reset to say 50,000 miles so you won't have the service light come on until the machine registers the higher set mileage. You can complete the major service yourself if you are confident and competent, again use OEN parts and keep the receipts, take some photos whilst completing the work, this assists in the event of any warranty issues, when changing the brake fluid you will need the dealer tool software uploaded to your phone or tablet, this will allow the pump to be purged, you can re set all manner of things via the app.

 

I took my bike in with a problem (the stalling issue) at just over 500 miles. I was concerned they couldn't do the service at the same, as it was an 80 mile round trip to take it in and I was going to be over. They told me it was only a guide and there wouldn't be any issue if I took it in and it had 8 or 9 hundred on the clock - it wouldn't matter or cause any problem

 

I'd definitely want that comment in written form....
Get them to send you an email saying that you can leave it for longer if I were you!

 

The first service on my Tiger 900 was due at 600 - due to various circumstances (a trip to Yorkshire, Blood biking) I took it in with 1100 miles on it. Dealer said it was absolutely fine - far worse to come in with less than 600 miles on them.
