Good morning, may I ask if anyone knows if there is a reason (safety perhaps?) why there is about a 2mm play at the start of twisting the Street Twin Throttle, please? I gather there is a Spacer Kit that smooths this out, but wondered if this was an ill-advised mod, for any reason? Thank you.
No idea wether it's for safety, production tolerance or what but I didn't like it so did the mod. I just used a couple of bits of heat shrink tubing rather than the fork out for a couple of bits of plastic.

The 2mm of slack is completely normal. The kit gets rid of most of the slack, but is completely and utterly unnecessary and does not, as some suggest, improve throttle response, acceleration, top speed, torque or attractiveness to potential sexual partners etc. It is in most regards a complete and utter waste of money. I fitted the kit to my Street Scrambler and quite like it as it gives the throttle a more quality feel, the same as the BMW I had at the same time. I like it and am pleased that I fitted it but I'll not even try to suggest it serves any purpose other than to make it feel a little nicer.

I only bought my Street Twin a few weeks ago, due to the lockdown have not driving it much. From Monday though I’ll drive it more and will take on board your comments in practice. Thanks again.
No problem Paul200; the throttle spacer things really are solving a non-problem, but that doesn't mean that you shouldn't fit them if you want to. I've spent a fortune getting my bike exactly like I want it, and I can guarantee that it's not how others would want it. Anyway, if you enjoy your Street Twin half as much as I am enjoying my Street Scrambler then you will have a great time. The Triumph classics (especially the 900s) aren't exceptional motorcycles by any stretch of the imagination, but what they do is put a smile on your face whilst you're riding and that, in my opinion at least, is what it's all about. For me, Triumph have achieved something magical and reminded me of the joy I felt when I started riding. Have fun! Tuesday looks like it'll be a scorcher

To be honest, I’ve taken on board your comments, and those of others who’ve kindly replied to me, and in the same vein as your last message gone ahead and ordered the Spacer Kit on eBay (£24.75). I’m a returning biker, so perhaps a little idealistic. Whilst as you say the kit solves a non-problem, I wholeheartedly agree with you this sort of mod is mainly for the enjoyment, in which I am glad to say Triumph is indeed demonstrating a master-class.
