Definately no. Done with big trailies.
I put the bike up the other day and its as good as sold as a guy came locally and gave me 100 deposit. Pity , but in my head I knew it wasnt going to work. Yesterday I test rode a Harley Sportster Iron for hour and a half and with the mid pegs I had no back problems and was sat on it for 70 miles. Weirdly after all Id read on the suspension too, the Sportster didnt jar on my back like the Speedmaster did

I had same problem when I took an America for a test ride once, managed 10miles and just had to hand it back. The position was too unnatural and got crippling backache in such a short time.
On the flip side of that I also owned a brand new Harley nightster 1200 and did all round Germany on it, reason being? It was Harley's introduction model WITH MID MOUNTED FOOTRESTS!! Strangely enough it was a far better position than the Bonneville America and reminded me of a similar feel of a Ducati monster, low to the floor with wide bars. I now ride a cast wheel Bonneville and can ride all day on it in comfort

Well I had in my head it was either going to be a Sportster or a Bonneville as a replacement. After the test ride, I realise the Harley has a massive plus point to me...... V twin, I just love them

    Fleece,
I got them second hand off ebay. I just kept typing in "Norman Hyde Footpegs Speedmaster" in the search box in 'Motorcycle Parts' section. It took quite a while until a set came up.
    ........I've sent you a PM.

You can also put a search reminder in, then you get e-mails when something matching your search comes on !!! I keep getting Honda VF750F's (I have one in pieces) and Sunbeam Rapier Fastbacks come into my e-mails.

Just need the pennies and the space to actually purchase :D

The thing is, they tried sucking me in with the Harley thing. I brayed it on the back roads once or twice and the front pogo sticked and bottomed out so when it went for the first service I mentioned it and they replied "do you mean topped out??" I told them it's what ever, it just can't cope then they said have you tried thicker oil to which at that point I got pissed off with them and said "care to look at the number plate, it brand new as its only its first 500mile service and these should be up to a basic standard for uk roads! I managed 2000 mile in total as I wasn't about to put £1500 into a new bike for upgrades and then sold it in disgust! Bought a boring cb1300 to replace for a fraction that did everything very well, just no soul.

I tried a 1200 Sportster and few months ago and to be honest I thought it was a load of vibey rubbish.

No power, poor suspension, poor brakes, really poor quality finish - it just had nothing appealing for me.

Test road an 883 Iron a couple of years ago - felt like someone had made it themselves in their shed !!! It didn't handle like a motorbike should! It is truly the worst bike I have ever ridden. The bars were too short and way too far forward, made for a very nervous ride, did a group of test riders really agree this was what it should ride like ????

Got back to the dealer and told him how much I disliked it, talked me into taking a Fatboy out for a run, made a great noise and started to sow the cruiser seeds in my mind. Got back to the dealer and told him much more impressive - then he told me the PRICE !!!

I went to look at the Iron @ £7500, took a fatboy out @:eek::eek::eek: £16,500 !!!!, WTF, nice bike but certainly not worth anywhere near that much.:(

A few years back I was working in Spamland (USA). One weekend me and my opo (another biker) hired a couple of bikes, fat boy for me and some Saxon thing for my him. Off we went round the Georgia back roads, must admit the fat boy felt good on those long bends and pretty empty and roads with very few climbs. That said I wouldn't fancy riding one on UK roads, they too narrow, bends just a tad too tight, generally poorly maintained and some of the climbs near me would have the gear shift going up and down like a hookers nether garments.;)

It's the ora (definately not spelt right) thing. Yes poor brakes poor suspension and could be better finish like boring Hondas but they are pretty much the longest going retros out there. If they were cheap like Enfields then they would be liked possibly more.

You can ride a Bonny with all that class, all day - or you can ride a Sportster for half an hour and be happy to hand it back.

I really wasn't impressed by it at all.

I don't see them as retros tbh - I just see them as old.

I must admit, triumph have truly bit back over the years with better bikes. Even the Bonneville America looks like a class leader not a follower like the virago and all the rest of the copies of Harleys and the good thing is.......
They're all priced right and more or less ride right from the crate
