Trident Or Street Twin?

  1. I’ve been considering one of these two for my next bike but I can’t simply decide. Now the trident is almost at the dealers and they said I should order one since they are a lot of preorders. I wanted to see one up close before but... when I first saw the twin I thought wow that’s a really nice bike. But hadn’t had the chance to see the trident.
    Anyway I have to make up my mind.
    So to some up my thinking.

    Street twin. Love the classic look but about 700-900 more than the trident without any extras. Although it is a great bike there is not much of following here in Greece in case I want to sell it after a few years. Bikes after all are toys and you need new toys every now and then.

    Trident. I’m a fan of the naked segment and love the way it looks and the way it balances retro-ish touches here and there. I can get some good extras with amount saved from the twin. But it is a new bike. New as in never before. And there is an aftermarket following probably here.

    Which ever I get I know I’ll love but wanted an extra push and discussion with you guys.

    You need to ride both and concentrate on engine characteristics to decide which suits your riding habits and local roads best. The twin produces more torque for a lazier ride but the triple will repay more spirited riding. It all comes down to personal preference and you will still hanker after the one you don’t buy!

    Are triumph still doing the offer with a new street twin? 500 pounds worth of free accessories?
    I bought one a few months ago and got a centerstand, heated grips and rear rack for free.

  6. Nope, in Greece they have a discount now as long as the lockdown is in effect. Which is 500euros less off the regular price. But still it's something like 500 euros more than the announced price of the Trident.

    As Callumity says, the characteristics of each will be different so you really need to test them both. Having said that, the Street Twin is more of a purists bike in terms of design, and having owned one I can testify that it's a lovely ride. Given the choice it's certainly the one that I'd be going for.

    I have a 2018 Street Twin, love it and it will always be quicker than me and there is no reason to change it. The devil on my shoulder loves the Street Triple and the street fighter style of bike. I wonder if the Trident will tempt me to trade mine in, I keep watching the ride tests and I like what I see.

    Both good choices--especially with the prices being closer than normal. Things that have me purchasing the Trident: Dual front brakes (though not Brembo like on the single disc front of the Street Twin), the inverted fork, the higher top-end HP (though the Street Twin gets the nod in torque), and the 3.7 gallon tank on the Trident is small enough as it is....the Street Twin's tank is even smaller at 3.2 gallons. I'd rather have the extra 25 or so miles with that half-gallon advantage.

    One has mudguards to catch road filth, the other uses the engine and radiator (and your back) instead.
    Dry roads in Greece?
     
  18. Most of the time... yes. But rain and dirt is to be expected in any bike. I mean its not like the twin catches everything and the trident will not.

    AbsolutelyBut I've spent s.o.o. much time soaking/ brushing mud and cow muck out of radiator fins and off my back, that I now swerve any bikes that use 'cool' mini mudguards. I asked if stone damage to the radiator was covered by the warranty. Nope!
