changed my bike and charge for actual bike change £5, but then Hastings direct whack on £25 admin fee. I did change online, got docs online so how in hell can they justify £25 admin charge???

I know they all do it, but will shop around at renewal to get best price as they all screw us, so screw them they have lost my business next year

Might have got away with it if you’d done it over the phone, possibly:p

My bike was insured for £3,800 .It was stolen last year and the insurers valued it at £2,400.Then they deducted £700 excess. So I only got £1700 back from the £3,800 it was insured for.I also lost the remaining 7 months it was insured for. That was Bikesure, they are worse thieves than the bike robbers!

Sorry to resurrect this thread but....

got my renewal quote through last week and found (having full no claims) that Hastings direct had raised it by just shy of £100 over what I paid last year.

Trying to get through to anyone these days is a nightmare, and any complaint is met with, “Yeah....sorry....Covid innit...”, (Marvellous excuse!) so I decided last night to go through go compare for a few quotes.....

Hastings direct also quoted, and I was totally f@cking annoyed to find their quote to me was twenty quid cheaper than last year!!!! These greedy bastards are a law unto themselves as we - the insured - are a captive audience that they can (and do) dictate their miserable, grubby little terms to.

As there no longer seems to be any bonus for loyalty these days, I’ll change companies every year if I have to, and yes, if HD come in cheapest next year I’ll spend my Hard earned with them, but this year however, they can kiss my swingers!

I always use the comparison sites and (hopefully) get a cheaper quote there. I'd also ring Hastings (stick the phone on loud speaker whilst you have your breakfast until they answer) and tell them you've got a much cheaper quote for the same cover elsewhere (whether you have or not). They usually sharpen their pencils when prodded with a call but I wouldn't hold my breath. There is no company loyalty anymore whether you are talking Banks, Insurers or any other company you deal with these days IMO.

I do look around but not necessarily with the cheapest anymore.
I stick with the bigger ones and avoid MCE at all costs.
Currently with CN as my policy actually went down by £20 this year which is highly unusual.

I agree whole-hearted;y with everyone...I always shop around for the cheapest. Loyalty does not pay.

As an aside to the insurance issue, I also happily whored myself out over the past few years to the banks that paid you for "switching" to them. Every time I got the switching bonus (from £120 up to £200, depending) I'd then look around to switch again. I have done all the banks I can and am about £750 up over the past 6 years, with minimal effort or stress. I never have any money in my bank account, so that 750 is far far far more than I would ever earn in interest over the same period. screw 'em!

It doesn't particularly do your credit rating any good...but when re-mortgage time approaches, I just don't switch for 6 months or so to build that back again...then do another bank switch-ero.

Can't do one bank more than once...however, some of them I am approaching the "mustn't have had an account in the past 7 years" limit...so I hope to go round the horn again soon!

So have I. Auto renewal with Bennett's £360.91 for 2 bikes. Compare the meerkat and a few phone calls, Hastings direct £235 and much lower excesses on both bikes. The only thing I lose is a 10% Halfords discount via Bennetts rewards - but I don't use Halfords much anyway!!

    UPDATE:

I went back to Hastings direct armed with the information I had gathered and told them how displeased I was.....

...not only did they apologise, but I also go the same cover for LESS than my premium was last year!

On a slightly different insurance note my son passed his driving test last week so naturally I contacted my insurance company. They wanted me to pay an additional £1400 to cover him (including their amendment fee) plus wouldn't cover him until I had paid it. An afternoon of comparison websites resulted in a premium of almost half that plus I still had to pay them £69 for cancelling!

Exactly the same happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Automatic renewal quote from Hastings Direct for my car was £7 more than last year, at £227. Not bad I thought but still did the 'Go Compare' thing. The second quote on the list was Hastings Direct with £186. I went for it.
Similar thing last year. I phoned HD and said their 'Go Compare' quote was lower than their automatic renewal. They then quoted me a few quid less than their on-line price, after explaining it was something to do with Go Compares computer system. Sounds like bollox to me. I think you'd be daft not to shop around at renewal time.

After the year we’ve had, with everyone doing less miles due to lock downs and less traffic on the road generally, you would think our quotes would go down due to less claims. But my car renewals have gone up and I’ve just had my bike one and that also has gone up. Something tells me that they are getting their costs back from all the failed travel insurance claims they have had to settle. It’s all put in one pot and they’ve lost out elsewhere this year. But DO shop around definitely....!

Well, I tried to get some multi bike quotes today. Renewal quote was £40.00 more than last year. I also suddenly realised I had never declared my quick shifter so thought I would get that sorted at this time. I got a quote from my original insurer at £303 without QS and then asked for a quote with the QS . It jumped to £546.77. Needless to say, I have shopped around today and got a quote with the QS down to £307 with The Bike Insurer. Looks like that where I will be going next year.
