New Boots ?!

2k isn't much out of a set of tyres but saying that I have done 800 on my new Speed Triple and it's starting to look slightly squared off.
Think I will go with Michelin Pilot Road 3's when I need to take the OE fitment off. Fitted a set to my Multistrada 1200 and got over 5K out of them, amazing grip for a sports touring tyre and the best I have ever had in the wet.
I normally use a tyre specialist not a dealer to do the fitment. Wheel House Tyres, just off the M42 Birmingham are very good but a bit far for you I would guess, they torque all nuts back to manufactures spec. Scary watching them trying to crack the nut on the back wheel of the Ducati ( one guy holding the bike and 2 on a huge bar!)

 

I got rediculuse milage from pirreli's Angel st tyres(7k iirc) when I used it for commuting, really good in the wet too. That was on standard trim but now have modified for track use I tend to get 800-1200 miles from a set of rossos.

 

I had the same on my Multi 1200. A great big extension bar and two guys on the end trying to remove it! Glad I dont have that problem any more. I fitted Road Pilot 3 to that too and they were very good.
Waiting to see how I get on with the Explorer tyres and how many miles I get out of them..

 

How are you finding the Explorer compared to the Multistrada? I test rode one when I sold my Multi and liked it but still wanted something perhaps a little more sporty and less touring so went with the Speed Triple. It's not quite as comfy as the Ducati but no issues so far ( unlike the Multistrada )

I am getting used to it! It's a lot slower than the Multi, I loved the raw popping wheelie power. The Explorer is a lot less raw but so much nicer to commute on and I love the fact that I can ride in first gear without slipping the clutch. I just hope I don have any problems with it. He Multi was a nightmare. 10k it had a full engine rebuild after a ball bearing shattered in a main bearing race destroying the bottom end a cylinder and piston. Fortunately it was all covered under warrantee but it was off the road for two months with no loan bike!... Hope the Triumph gives me no problems. Seems pretty good so far!

 

Blimey thought I had issues with the Multistrada, went back about 7 times in 17 months for various warranty issues: clutch, cutting out, rear brake (3 times!) surging, auto steering lock would't unlock leaving me stranded, at least the engine never went bang!

Put 14000 on my machine, had a fantastic time on it in the Alps, loved the bike at times just could not put up with the problems so part ex'ed it while it still had some extended warranty

The Triumph is giving me a better feeling on reliability, nothing as yet has fallen off or failed, so fingers crossed, it may not have the power of the Multi but still have 133 bhp and the triple engine is so much smoother and tractable.

 

Pirelleli Angels are great, we actually have a customer with a Speed R running Dunlop Roadsmart 2's .... He loves them! Reckons they have completely changed the bike... :smile:

 

Had the same issue with my OEs on 2012 Speed Triple, met let race tech 3s I think they were, awesome grip in the summer on dry roads but cooled quickly and were less reassuring in the wet... And mileage was not their strong point..
After my 2nd rear was shot I went for a pair of pilot Road 3s, I love these tyres, the front looks a tad erm well strange but the grip is brilliant even on ever changing surfaces... Confidence shot up immediately, feed back is great too...
If your a track burner then the race techs probably suit but for summer blasts on uk roads or touring I would recommend the PR3's all day long, you won't regret them!
P.S I have no connection to any tyre company... Lol

 

always an emotive subject are the tyres .... Im on my second set of the Metzeler M5's and I love them and all those I know who use them, also love them.
Again its personal choice but I havent heard a bad word about them

 

My SIII came with Pilot Powers as standard - fantastic grip but only c. 2,000 miles out of a rear. Then I started using a Road 2 on the back with a Power on the front. This was a very good combination but the Road 3s are the way to go for me. However, I'm a strong believer that a lot of your riding is done in your head and you've got to be confident in your tyres. I suggest listening to recommendations but ultimately you've got to ride with what feels secure below you.

 

Thought this might be of interest, and what better thread to put it in... I had some new Pilot Road 3s put on on Saturday. Managed to pick up a nail whilst out scrubbing them in later the same day. I went to Buckley Tyres this morning to see if they could repair it. He told me that it was lucky I was wearing Michelins as no other tyre manufacturer authorises repairs. That would've been an expensive 300 miles! Just thought I'd share...

 

Thought you had bought studded snow tyres by mistake bry!
