This looks as if it may be on the cards after he secured his 7th world championship win last week.
He's undoubtedly got outstanding talent and may well be one of the best drivers out there but as some current and past drivers have said he's only as great as the car he's been driving.

I'm not saying that any other driver could have done this had they been in the Mercedes but lets be honest, if he'd stayed at McLaren for the last 7 years he'd have won f*ck all! :D:D

    Discuss!

Oh, and if you start a legal battle to try and stop a watch making company called Hamilton from using the name, even though that company was formed in 1892 and Elvis Presley (among others) used to wear the watches, then you are an arrogant twat!

Yes I think he should get a knighthood :)
He’s not finished yet and will probably be the most successful driver ever as it’ll take someone special to take away his records :)
I know some people think that knighthoods are sometimes given out cheaply but he has dedicated his life to his achievements :)
I know of footballers who have been knighted for winning the World Cup once!!!

Not a follower of F1 or car racing of any sort just give me two wheel sport.

I think he will be knighted for two reasons.

One for his achievements in F1 and the precedent was set when Jackie Stewart was knighted after winning three world championships.

The other will be for his celebrity involvement with the BLM movement which he tries to push down the publics throat with every interview.

He’d get more respect from me if he said all lives matter, which they do in my eyes.

I think its nailed on in the New Years Honours list. He's achieved a great deal in his sport, whatever your views on the guy himself (and I don't like him). I've stopped watching F1 for the same reason I stopped when Vettle was winning all the time. Moto GP this year was a far more interesting spectacle to watch. And whilst we are talking about Honours, when are they going to recognise Jonathan Reas brilliance?

    No he shouldn't.
He benefits from receiving extraordinary income.
He, by choice, does something that he presumably loves doing, obviously he does it very, very well, but what proportion of the population have any interest in F1?
Doesn't he live out in Monaco, or somewhere, enjoying a life style that most folk could only ever dream of?
He's done alright whichever way you look at it.
The honours system is badly flawed, didn't Mrs Blair's hairdresser get an OBE or something?

Putting politics and personal opinion aside. I can only see a few facts. Sir Elton John's (spl) contribution to the Great Britain was purely as an entertainer. Sir Patrick Stewart etc. and others also. Jackie Stewart did contribute to the sport after he retired from racing. It is true that Hamilton drives for what has been the best team in F1 for years. But so have a number of talented team mates. And have never come close to his accomplishments. As an American I don't have the understanding of knighthood that my British friends do. And I do read that Hamilton has over the years become a bit of a prick. But if that's a disqualifier how the hell did Elton receive the honor. Reportedly the biggest prick on the planet.

Absolutely not, he supports a racist, marxist, anti-democratic movement, he lives abroad avoiding paying his fair share of taxes to the British government. He plays the race card at every oportunity.

IMO he is a self obsessed, egotistical, prick.

Like others have already said, he is a big factor in why I have not watched F1 racing for years... and I used work for an F1 team and used to love the sport.

He may be a very talented driver but he seems to have gone a bit daft with his ideas these days he has just lost a legal battle with the Watch company Hamilton's because he thinks they shouldn't use the name that they have used since the 1890s as he think its his right...twat!

    I think he’s a dick.

sure he did not get into motor racing to make the world a better place.

over paid, and unlikely to use it to benefit anyone but him.

from what I read he has got a “l’m great” attitude.

but he has achieved more than many people who got a knighthood in the past or future. End of the day most people that get any of this type of award are doing their job and getting paid for it, but there are exceptions and it those type of people should get it.

the rules needed to be looked at as the whole system I feel it full of people recommending each other and so undervalues the whole thing. Buts it’s alway been like that and is almost always those with money that gain them!!!

What does being a knight actually mean?
If he’s true to his convictions, he wouldn’t accept anyway... a knight of the realm of a country that oppressed “his people” or summat?
Yeah, give him a chance of more hypocrisy... he’s as much right as any other top athlete...

It’s often the team behind the knighthood rather than the individual. A knighthood would honour the team as well as Lewis.

No - and as a general principle......

Professional sports people (pc or wot?) and entertainers get massively rewarded for their success in their primary career. Knighthoods etc., should be a recognition for what they give back, not what they have achieved. Didn’t hurt Stirling Moss to wait and John Surtees never got one despite actually winning World championships. When it comes to knightly valour, F1 is now vastly safer too. Andy Murray etc., :triumph:

So Lewis gets it for encouraging diversity within F1 and promoting veganism awareness.

He is also a major contributor to Great Ormond Street hospital, Unicef, The Honeypot Children's Charity and Children of Africa. Many times after a race, instead of leaving the country immediately, he will stay and visit children in poor villages (India) and slums on behalf of UNICEF.

He has unified all of his giving under the Lewis Hamilton Foundation. The goal of the foundation is to provide grants and donations to help with disabilities, Education/training, the advancement of health or saving of lives, prevention or relief of poverty, and general charitable purposes throughout England

No it would not honour the team, it would be his personal honour, and he would make the most of it.

The team will be well rewarded. When I was in the business, on top of very competative salaries, we used to get a bonus of up to a £100 per point scored in the championship (not sure if that still happens, but I suspect it does), plus very lavish parties, and various other freebies.

As Callumity said, honours should be for more than just personal achievement that has already been very well rewarded. Reward of an honour should be for what has been given back, with the emphasis on work and time, not just financially because that is too easy if you are that wealthy.

surtees won the equivalent of moto gp and the formula 1 championship and he didn't get one. Hamilton probably will but more for his wokeness and less for his driving ability it would seem......

Personally I think sporting knighthoods should only be rewarded once their sporting career is well and truly over. However, as this is not the case he deserves one as much as many others who have received one whilst still engaging in their sport.
