I have not ridden that far northwest, so cannot comment on the quality of roads. I have a good route to Detroit Lakes, MN, as I take in the Rally America races. However, things to see in Iowa and good riding (according to simple man). Clear Lake is a destination of sorts with the Buddy Holly plane crash and the Surf Ballroom. Larch Pine B&B is good. From there travel east using Route 18 to Postville and then Route 52 into Dubuque. Some blind magic sequences on that route. Stay overnight in Dubuque and visit Sindt Cycles (Triumph) and/or McGrath HD. They say that Hotel Julien (city center) is nice. I can recommend Mississippi River Museum for some non-bike distractions. Route 151 from Dubuque will take you to Anamosa. J&P has a modest showroom, but will get anything they have in stock that you see in the catalog for viewing or purchase on the spot. The Motorcycle Museum is a treat. Field of Dreams in Dyersville is still in operation, proving that only in Iowa can a defunct movie site become a national treasure. Waterloo has a dynamite John Deere museum, as this is the founding site for big green. I suppose this could stretch into three days, but better more than too little.

Thanks SO much for your awesome response, @Hobnail. I figured that the Google Maps would put us on big roads, hence my reaching out to you as you know "what's what". Your response is so helpful and has so many great suggestions and recommendations which I truly appreciate. I particularly resonate with the John Deere museum. I grew up on a corn/soybean and hog farm (which my little brother still runs) and we've always been a John Deere family so that museum would be great fun to see. In fact, my dad was cremated when he passed and we buried his ashes in a John Deere tractor tool box. My mom's ashes went into a Pioneer Seeds cookie jar. Dad and my little brother, in addition to farming the land (plus) that my great grandad farmed, were seed dealers for Pioneer and my brother continues in that capacity. His older son, our beloved nephew, just got a job working for Pioneer as an ag consultant. He will eventually farm with my brother and be the 5th generation to farm the farm on which I grew up.

Love, love, love the offer to meet up with you next summer if we're in your neck of the woods! It's highly likely that we'll do that as COVID and other things in 2020 have reminded us that family--and time--are precious. Mr. Sandi and I would love to meet you over coffee or "more edgy" beverages! I also love the Clear Lake photo. It's similar to the views of Green Lake in Spicer MN where my brother has a cabin that my parents bought back in the late '70's.

 

A nice morning, so I went for a ride along the river Vecht. In the 17th century, this is where the rich merchants from Amsterdam built their country houses.

Old age is an awful thing. I was riding back from picking up an order from screwfix and forgot where i lived. I must have gone fifty miles out of my way before I remembered.

 

I'm a girl, Duck, so that works for me. Evidently Churchill thought gin was pretty powerful and effective stuff, too. Or maybe it was just the tonic part.

 

I have been know to imbibe the odd G & T now and again... probably me getting in touch with my feminine side 8)

 

Nothing feminine about G&T mate - whole armies of good, brave fighting men were quaffing it!

Not today but yesterday...
Visited work on a Saturday to pick up some bits and pieces.
Just installed my heated grips, I totally forgot how amazing it is to have heated grips....
Normally the bike would be parked up for the winter but it was 10 degrees celcius and thats bikeweather in Sweden.
