Help With Fuel Gauge Please.

Are you using a trickle charger, bike or car battery charger?

 

In a word - yes!

Depends on what charger you used and at what setting and for how long. Some warmth is normal. Heat not so much. Corrodes and buckles plates. The fact it is working still is a positive but there may be hidden negatives

 

I’d stop using the charger straight away matey. Probably no feedback on current so it’s boiling it away. May even be knacked now I’m afraid.
As for the gauge, may be related but I honestly can’t think why.
Fuse somewhere possible but as @Callumity said, gremlins

 

Oooh..... for a bike battery that’s more torrent than trickle. Unregulated it was probably charging over 4x the appropriate rate for a baby battery. Modern smart chargers can be pegged back to a couple of amps and switch themselves off as the battery hits full charge and switch on again when they sense a drop.

The key question is.... the key. Did you switch on the ignition at any stage while hooked up? If so, you may have blown a fuse because the gauge circuit should be protected. Otherwise my guess is any problem is unrelated.

 

So just to confirm the fuel gauge doesn't work after refitting and reconnecting the battery rather than after charging it?

 

does the garage smell of petrol and is the floor slippery???

 

It might actually be ok if you ride it?
When I fill mine, it does take a few miles to register.
It could have forgotten the level (I’ve literally no idea if thats correct) due to the time?

 

Google DT Codes. Sounds like a small misalignment of the crank position sensor?
