I will be installing Conti Road Attack 3 tires on my 2018 Street Twin. Do I stay with the same tire pressure as the OEM Pirelli's? 32 psi front / 36 psi rear?
Fitted RA3's to my Street Twin 2500 miles ago. Set them at the same 32/36psi. Most of that mileage was on one trip in September, from Manchester, down to Lands End, then back up via the scenic route to John O'Groats. Not had a problem. Guess you could experiment, but like most people I can't be bothered. Be interested to know if you find a better pressure to run them at though.
I’ve fitted the same RA3s. I’ve kept the same pressures as well. I did experiment with lowering them a bit when the weather was very hot. I found that the pressure in the rear tire spiked to over 40psi once it got hot. I lowered it to 34 cold to get it to stay at 36 once it heated up, with ambient temps in the high 90s. Honestly, couldn’t tell a difference. It may have changed long term wear, I’m not sophisticated enough to tell. I’ve just gone back to what the recommendations are. I guess this is another topic that could get as silly as what oil is best!
Over inflation means higher central tyre wear and less grip, in theory at least. If you're concerned about pressure fluctuations with temperature changes you could fill them with nitrogen, as used by the racing fraternity.
