Some say the Van Halen of the 70's saved rock and roll -that may be an overstatement, but me and my friends sure were glad they came along.

That first album was the soundtrack to stuff we won't discuss here.

A True guitar hero one of the best in Rock in his era; Jump is masterclass in song intro/riffs and solo's.
Sorry to here he had a drawn out fight with the big C.
All my guitar hero's are dying! makes me feel old.

Sad to hear of his passing. The fellow was one of the first rock guitar 'Gods' and a true innovator. wasn't quite my own taste in playing but was imaginitve and technically excellent. He is also the artist that Peavey created the legendary 5150 amplifier for and that has become the 'standard' model of valve amplifier for Rock/Metal and Thrash guitarists and a bloody good amplifier all round. Fellow has left a big footprint on the world or Rock and Metal.

I wasn't a big fan of Van Halen but fairly recently I listened to the whole eponymous album and suddenly I got it. That was a hell of a debut for 1978.

My dumb arse had to look up that $75 word, but yes, it was one hell of an album debut. And the way they recorded it was pretty amazing and rarely done -done in 3 weeks with very little over-dubbing it was raw, yet polished.

EVH also performed on albums by other artists. The memorable guitar riff in Michael Jackson's hit "Beat it" from his Thriller album was Eddie's.

    His sound/riffs still sound fresh.

    Howzat? That’s genius.

Now we can imagine him and RJD getting it together. Top that. Nope.
