So I have the OEM Aftermarket Arrow exhaust for my 2019 Street Triple R and while I was trying to take the baffle out, I dropped a stainless steel screw in there. Being the idiot I am, I tried fishing it out with a magnet and well, that dropped in there too. Then I also dropped a screw driver with a rubber handle trying to get that out. From what I understand, the screw and screwdriver ( at this point the rubber has melted completely off) seem to be fine but, I'm concerned about the magnet. While nothing does rattle, it does drive me crazy that there is stuff just sitting in there. Magnet would probably cause some corrosion over time I imagine, even if its a nickel plated one. Bike runs perfectly fine and there is no rattling.

Any suggestions on what to do to get them out? Magnet screwed onto a dowel? Seems like I would have to cut open the silencer assembly to get it out by hand any other way. The highlighted area in red is where the magnet and everything else is at the moment. Any suggestions would be great.

    Hi mate,

I would seek a stronger magnet (20-25mm diameter) that is threaded at the end for screwing in a long round bar shaft. You can bend the end to stop that from also falling down the exhaust. The shaft must be around 300mm long at least. You will most like pull it out slowly rather than picking it up. Try to find a magnet manufacturer that can provide you with a strong magnet that already has a threaded end to screw in a shaft. The shaft I refer to will be around M6 thread, (small diameter) so that you can still maneuver it around. The shaft of the screwdriver lying in there could be a pain to get out depending on where the magnet picks it up. Rest assured with the new magnet attached to the threaded shaft it wont be able to detach and fall in there as well. That’s what I would suggest before hacking the box open. Good luck !

You can also look for one of the extended magnetic pick up tools, works on the same principle as what I explained in my previous post. The magnets are just not that strong hence I suggested to see if you can find a manufacturer that have a strong one that is threaded.

There is a separate thread for WTF moments because I struggle to be sympathetic to someone who has posted so many foreign bodies into a silencer.....I mean kids and VHS recorders you can understand.

However, I will try and be constructive and ask whether you have tried the maracas method of shaking stuff out via the same route it went in (although I expect baffles designed to decelerate gas will operate like a fish trap!)

The screw is probably autenistic steel I.e. non or minimally magnetic and utterly harmless. The magnet may well be the neodymium type. They hate heat and will crumble and oxidise fast and get blown out as rusty dust. The screwdriver should be locatable by shaking and recoverable with a hooked coat hangar or magnet but if it doesn’t rattle I would put the whole episode down to experience. And remember Einstein never said “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”
