Hey folks, Just joined up as I'm really looking into getting a Scrambler. I've been riding since I was a kid, learned on a Suzuki DR200, and have had and ridden all sorts of bikes since. Currently I've got a 2014 Honda Grom that's just a blast to ride, but too small for riding with the girlfriend, and not ideal for longer trips (although the long, winding tours on slower back roads is where it shines). Hope to glean some knowledge from all of you!
Hello and welcome to a terrific forum, Corbino! We'd love to see photos of your current bikes, especially your Grom.I think Honda Grom's are totally cool bikes. But I suspect it's an understatement to say that they are "not ideal for longer trips". There are lots of Scrambler owners on here that have traveled on their bikes and would probably be more than happy to share their knowledge and opinions.
Thanks all, glad to be here! So as it goes, I've just put a deposit down on a nice 2017 Street Scrambler with only 362 miles on it! I haven't seen the bike in person yet, but it looks mint and even has the Fox rear suspension on it, plus a couple other nice pieces of kit. Hopefully, checking it out in the next couple days. Sandi, glad you agree that Groms are totally cool bikes! I know some just see them as toys . My only current bike is the Grom, but I've had a 1994 Yamaha Seca II, who's raspy engine hated lower rpms. I traded that for a 1986 Honda Shadow 700 (fun bike! Top-heavy though). Sold that for cheap when it needed an overhaul and I bought the Grom new. Here's a couple pics of the Grom, both pre and post-headlight swap with the new style LED. I'm deciding what style paint job I want to go with. My good friend has a nice shop and builds custom bikes, I'll have him paint it, probably the new Scrambler too! Last shot is one of his builds: a BSA hardtail chopper.
It's been nothing but a blast! Lightweight and flickable, super reliable, there's a huge aftermarket, and even though it tops out around 65mph there's a lot to say for riding a slow bike fast! You won't regret it!
