    Hello,

does anyone tried the Triumph Wax Jacket MTHS20112?
I think it would look good on my Scrambler XC but is it good to wear and anything near waterproof?

    Thanks,
    Peter

In the late 1960s I bought a Belstaff Trialmaster (Trialsmaster??) waxed cotton jacket which, as far as I can remember, was 100% waterproof. I would guess that, after 50 odd years of development, waxed cotton jackets still are!:)

I bought a CD175 for 25 quid and got a trialsmaster jacket and trousers thrown in (This may have been some time ago)
This has affected my 'How Much' response to new Belstaff products and their price tag

That's why I wouldn't go down the Belstaff/Barbour route nowadays on principle. I need function at functional prices not fashion at catwalk prices!

I have the Triumph Steve McQueen waxed jacket from 2014. I have to say it’s clearly my favorite and is very versatile. I’ve worn it in some good downpours and I’d call it water “resistant”, not fully waterproof. I’m in Colorado, so our rains don’t typically last very long, but they are always ice cold!

I wasn’t able to find your specific model online, but If this new one is similar to mine, I would think it would be an outstanding jacket for all but the wettest of rides. Durability is excellent.

Cost vs performance take a look at Merlin wax jacket and performance wax range, very well made in my opinion

Barbour definitely waterproof and worth the money (£250 - £350)
Belstaff stupid money and not worth it!

My Barbour’s been through countless downpours over the last 3 years re waterproofed once and still good for many years yet, quality material, zips, and pocket studs. And designed for biking

+1. I still have the Barbour jacket my Dad bought me over 40 years ago (for fishing not riding) and it's still perfectly serviceable. It's been retreated with Barbour wax a couple of times. I don't Fish that much now so it doesn't get worn much anymore. Every time I see it it brings back fond memories of past times fishing with my Dad who passed away in 2017.

If it’s fashion you’re after then Barbour is the way to go if you want some form of riding protection then you need a heavier cotton, heavier stitching and armour surely

For weather protection I’ll go Barbour, the cotton is heavy and stitching up to the job I need - not a fashion statement
If I’m really worried about protection I’d look elsewhere than wax jackets anyway, it’s not what they’re designed for :)

For those of you who have waxed cotton jackets, how much time and effort is it to rewax your jackets? I have one waxed cotton jacket that I've not yet treated. But living in the desert, I don't much have to worry about getting caught in the rain in it. If there's any rain predicted, I wear something else. But it does seem like it's a big "dry" and could use some was. Any recommendations for which wax to use??

The manufactures usually have their own wax for sale in tin's it's out with the hair dryer and work in into the garment paying particular attention to seams

@Sandi T. I would recommend a tin of Barbor re wax, heat it up until really runny (and keep it warm during application probably not a problem for you guys:)) then apply a panel at a time with a sponge, once done run a hot hair dryer over it to push the wax into seams and get an even finish, took me a couple of hours to do mine last time and there’s loads of videos on YouTube which are really helpful

The triumph wax jackets seem like real quality ,but similar priced to the new belstaff jackets. I was lucky enough to get a virtually new Sammy Miller belstaff, 2nd hand off a friend. I prefer to wear that with a knox armoured vest, as the armour fits a lot more tightly . I re- wax it my self every couple of years and its very waterproof, but not warm enough for winter riding.

Totally agree. Merlin wax jackets are tough and fully waterproof. Fitted with shoulder and elbow armour but still look good and not too bulky. Made in the UK and very good value for money..and you're not paying double for a name that has now been adopted by the fashion-conscious, green welly crowd.

I've got the Merlin Barton jacket. I bought it through Urban Rider at well below list price, although I had to wait a while until my size came back in stock.
In case anyone's unaware, Urban Rider have a system in place to award points for each purchase, these points quickly add up to significant discounts.

I tried the Triumph Beck 2 Jacket and it fits like a dream, so it had to come with me. Great jacket!
    Cheers
