Here! Nice to meet you both and hope you enjoyed a safe and pleasant ride home! There was a Police speed camera van on the A361 eastbound, but I wasn't looking to break any speed records - or, indeed, my unblemished driving record! See you at the next one.
Good to meet you both too....and thanks for the hot choc Adie - I owe you! Far nicer ride back along the old road through to Tivvy than the A361 any day - speed traps or no. Plenty more lovely roads to have a go at on those Tigers; whenever I can get an hour off, that is.....
@Steamerblue and @Clarkey231 if you two fancy another meet up anytime in the future give me a shout or PM. Always happy to meet and 'kick tyres' ...... providing, of course, the roads and weather are dry!!! Organising a ride might be a bit more difficult but worth considering, too.
Sorry for slow reply @Adie P Been flat out since our meet. Now off to work until probably mid Sept so will advise when back! Look forward to a ride out defo.
Bike now MoT'd - thanks Treens Crediton - and found a name of the guy in Bow that you mentioned @Clarkey231 - Ian Johnson? I have a number too so I'll check him out and see if he's still operating. Up for a meet @Adie P ?
I must have missed the conversation regarding Bow and Ian JOHNSON so will need to explore that with you both when next we meet! Segues neatly - nay, seamlessly - into the question at hand. Yes, definitely up for a meet/ride/whatever but I've got commitments now that mean I can't do anything until w/c 6th September. Yeah, I know ... a retard (retired) person with no time? Doesn't compute .... on paper. I've got a walking holiday coming up so a lot to get ready and some arrangements to make; two new tyres and a sevice needed for the car; the Daytona sprang an oil leak - thankfully AFTER our meet - so that needs to be sorted and I still haven't got around to replacing the indicators on the Speed! There's nothing to stop you two (and anyone else out there looking to kick tyres, talk Steamer Tiger and drink coffee) going ahead with another meet-up but I'll take this opportunity to suggest that we meet - UFFCULME MILL, maybe? - on Monday 7th. September, weather, COVID and other phenomena permitting?
@Adie P Ian Johnson runs a m/c workshop in Bow near Crediton and word has it (so @Clarkey231 mentioned) that he is a bit of a specialist on Hickley Triples. I've called him and he is keen on the triples and runs a steamer himself and does service them - more or less anything but valve shims. He also reckons he knows of another half dozen Tigers on the road so if we do Uffculme or wherever he/they might come along too. And he gave me the name of another bod that works on triples over at Woodbury and he does valve shims etc. So, Uffculme? Definitely if I can get the time off but I see @Clarkey231 is tied up with snorkelling 'til mid sept, so maybe we should delay 'til he returns? We could end up with a Steamer fest! Maybe when Uffculme are steaming?
Ah OK @Steamerblue (see, I've forgotten your real name already! It's me age, dearie ...........) that's all useful information. I'm still fairly happy to let Clive at Treens work on mine - including doing the valve shimming - but it's useful to have alternatives/backups, etc. My initial thinking about going to Coldharbour Mill was that I would try to speak to someone there and make a semi-formal "event" of it - a 'steam gathering', if you like. That would, of course, be best done in summer (for the grockels ) so that's one to think about for next year. I still think it would be a good place for an informal meet like our last one as it has the cafe, a shop, a car park and is fairly easy for all of us to reach. I suggest that we leave Monday 7th. September on the calendar for now and see what's happening a few days before?
RICK! Yeaaaahhh - I knew that! Great. I'll keep fingers crossed that we'll get a fair day and a chance to meet again. Might even get some T3 riders interested. HELLO-O-O-O-O...................
