Yes! Very cool, JtC. Actually about four years ago Mr. Sandi and I were diving in Cozumel with two friends, Tyler and Heather. Tyler and Mr. Sandi were near our dive master, Jeremy, and Heather and I were off just a little ways intently watching two eagle rays (the rays with spots) swim in the other direction. All of a sudden one of the two rays shot straight towards the surface and breached like the one in this photo! It was one of the most amazing things I've had the privilege of seeing while diving--or even just in general. Heather and I just looked at each other with wide eyes then did the "underwater Snoopy dance" with each other. Later when we told the guys what we saw, there were sad sack faces all around that they'd not see it, too, though they were thrilled that we did get to witness the event. Jeremy said it's incredibly unusual to see that happen. I will never ever forget that sight!
That is sweet. I've seen lots of them in documentaries and have never seen one doing that. I wonder if they're going after prey on the surface. If so, I'd hate to be that prey! It would be like getting hit by a car, I would think.
That's my shop in the center of the photo and as you probably guessed by now the reason I posted it here is no matter what kind of day I'm having there's something wonderful waiting for me just outside. Of course I'm referring to the bar right next door.
