I just posted as a new member. And it occurred to me, since I haven't actually finished negotiating for my new bike, do you folks have suggestions about what I should bargain for? Free stuff they can give away? Extras I might not think about. How did you get your best deal?

Yes most dealers at the present time won't haggle at all. But quite a few will throw in a few goodies like centre stand or mufflers you need to ask and always start by saying you are only shopping around at present for the best deal and don't mind travelling.
    Regards
    Joe.

Joe, Were you listening when I talked to my salesperson? You weren't hiding behind me or something, right? That was essentially what I said. My best line, as it turns out, was "I really want a red one." They only had black and orange. By holding out for red, they seem motivated to convince me to take the orange (which I do prefer over the black). We are talking and they have already conceded $1,000. I'm pretty excited. I think I'll get a t-shirt too! Ok, so everyone gets the shirt. No big deal. I know.

Wut you got a t shirt and a $1000 off? Hope it was purple t shirt. Sounds like you got a good deal. You'll be getting a nice triumph back pack also, I believe.

Hi David, me again. Check out Youngblood Powersports in Ozark, MO They bought out another dealer's inventory and are making strong deals. It's where I got my Diamond Edition, which ordinarily would not be discounted. They have a new 2018 T120 Silver for only $8,499.00. I sure they'll take $8,000.00. The listing says there are dealer installed accessories worth nearly $1,000.00 but I don't see anything in the pictures. If you're interested ask for Aaron Bassett, the sales manager. You may mention me as well, though I'm not sure it's worth any $$ off! Norman Cohen

Here is a game scenario I ran that seemed to help numbers when I ran it. Since you are US bound there is a high volume dealer in New Hampshire that deals nationwide under the name National Powersports Distributors (NPD). They move used bikes mostly, BUT they have new Triumphs through their other vertical Concord Triumph. Now you can work a deal with these guys via phone and email, and they often do not nickel-dime ya with setup and other dealer add-on fees. They will quote you a reasonable shipping fee, but sometimes you can wrap it in. If you like their deal go for it, or in the alternative use the no frill price point as intel and a baseline starting point with your local dealer. Complain that you are unsure about buying sight unseen and their ship fees. Ask your local dealer to meet or beat the NPD number and give you some service coupons or merch in the amount of the NPD ship fee. Tell your local dealer, they will make it back up in the future warranty service calls. Offer to take the financing offer so they can make some back getting commission on the note, then prepay it off in the first 2 payments if you have the cash flow anyway. Finally pick bikes that are "new" but last year model, and I usually like DEC-FEB winter months to target and sift through inventories. Hell it is a global recession due to some bullcrap engineered virus in a market demographic of declining US sales, that bike will be there waiting for you - trust me.

Using this method, Dealer-1 would not move no matter what. That street cup sat in his window for 2 years thereafter. I would drive by and snicker every time. Dealer-2 dropped $1500 under MSRP and had zero add-on costs (usually around 1200-2000 depending) coming back in, but for state tax.

I wound up buying used and did better in the end, but I almost closed with dealer 2 using this method. Good luck shaking some trees.

Hi Mate & Welcome to the Forum

If you don't ask you don't get, the worst that could happen is they say no if you offer less than the tag price, failing that ask what extras they will throw in for the price.
