Hello, I will soon be purchasing a new T120. Don't tell my dealer! It's still a secret. I'm a fish they reeled in, but I'm putting up a semi-decent fight. I'm actually pretty excited. The bike I tested isn't exactly my favorite color, orange and gray, but if they give me the good deal they have promised, I'll survive despite my lusting for a blue. I'm 67 and expect this will be the last bike I ever buy. It will be my second Triumph. I had a 2002 Bonneville America that I grew to hate. Forward controls are not for me. Anyway, I've got questions but will wait until I actually have the bike so they are semi-legit. Enjoy your riding. and all that jazz.
DavidBrownLaw Welcome to the family. Good choice of bike. But do ask your question as if it is about the bike you may regret not asking later. Regards Joe.
Joe, Thanks. My questions are really about setting the bike up once I own it. For example, I want detachable, locking, saddlebags for the bike that look decent. I've read almost all the threads on this forum about bags, and set-ups and you name, it, but nothing that directly addresses my somewhat complicated desire. I also want to know whether it is a good idea or a bad one to use something like the Scottoil oil system for my chain. I do not like the idea of working on it every 200 miles. Yes, there are threads about that too, but most seem to be "how to" rather than "should you?" thanks for you kind welcome.
DavidBrownLaw Yes good question saddle bags really the best i have found are the Triumph ones fitted by Triumph But there are options around you really just need to see if they are right for you. The Triumph are quick release so handy for touring. But i also use a Held set that are great again detachable and have handles to carry them like a case. Scott oiler are useful again for touring got one on my T100. But since someone on here said about using a good heavy gear oil i decided to get a new toothbrush now i use my old one to clean my chain and i am very impressed Five minute job and lasts about a monts and minimal spray from it. I do hope this helps. Regards Joe.
Joe, Thanks. I do not like the Triumph bags, primarily as they seem very costly. If the bags themselves locked, I would change my mind. I will check out the Held set. I do like the handles too. In terms of the chain maintenance, I will probably try multiple options before deciding. But, every 200 miles is a pain. My last two bikes were a BMW R1100R and a Harley 750 Street (don't groan, I'm selling it). The shaft drive was super and the belt on the Harley needed no care whatsoever. What I really want to do is get the new bike and ride it. (The HD is in the shop.)
DavidBrownLaw Nothing wrong with either of your other bikes. Lots of the peeps here have the beemers and the 750 street i have not seen one yet but they get good reports. But you just fit the oilier and let it do the work for you. Like i said i got one on my 2010 Bonnie and top it up maybe once a year and that's it. I have had it from about 2014 and haven't had to adjust the chain since. Regards Joe.
Hi, David, and welcome from a fellow American to a terrific forum and great community. Good luck on the purchase of a new T120. We'll be eager to see photos when it has made it's way home with you.
