Hi all! New to this site, HUGE Triumph fan, got my 1st one, 2005 America then an 04 Speedmaster, love it as much. I have a question about a 2001 Legend. Looking to buy. It's got about 9k miles on it said the #3 cylinder misfires and needs a new igniter. With this info alone does $1000 sound like a good deal? Anyone mechanically inclined to give me an idea whether or not I should consider this purchase?
Difficult to assess value in different markets but a misfire on one cylinder sounds like a coil (circa $80?) rather than the igniter which triggers all three coils. Subject to general mechanical and cosmetic condition $1000 sounds pretty reasonable for the mileage.
Welcome Lisa. The bike sounds like a bargain to me if it’s fairly clean. As @Callumity says, it shouldn’t be too expensive to sort out if you can do it yourself or have a friend to help. Of course there’s always lots of peeps on here who’ll help where they can. Get it bought!
Hi there! If it's definitely #3 cylinder, swap the coil to another one and see if the problem moves over! Won't take long and you'd know straight away. Possibly save a lot of heart ache too if its not the coil as you can then look else where! Hand on the exhaust (low down, obviously) is a good/quick way to check as it won't get as hot as the other ones!
Hi Lisa and welcome to the forum Good luck with sorting the Sprint and looking forward to seeing your rides
