Hi everyone, I've just bought a Speedmaster! It's been a long time since I rode a bike. Oct 97 to be precise and after six months in hospital I now use a wheelchair but no sympathy wanted or needed. I'm making a return to biking and I'll adapt the Speedy with landing gear and a gear shifter so I can still carve corners. I look forward to spending time on here with you all. Thanks
Hi mate and welcome I remember seeing a bike with landing gear years ago at hartside cafe Good luck mate and let us see it when you’re ready
Will do! There's a lack of info about building landing gear so I may make some YouTube videos to help other riders. Feel like I'm starting right at the bottom but I'll certainly post my progress and some pics as I go.
Like I said mate it was a long time ago But I remember the rider was quite a young lad from Scotlandshire who had been in an accident and smashed both his legs up loosing one below the knee and the other was so pinned up that he had very little movement in his ankle A friend of his father was a bit of a tech wizard and made him some wheeled stabilisers that came down automatically when the bike was going about 3 miles an hour As he pulled out of the car park I seen them lift up automatically and away he went All very clever
Steve Powick Welcome to the family. Good luck with your project. And yes i would be interested in watching a build of this type. Sounds like a lot of work. But well worth it even just to say look it can be done. Regards Joe.
Wow guys that's a welcome and a half, not had that with any other make of car or bike before. I appreciate the support. Yep I've got a wheeled stabiliser in mind, maybe adapt the main stand with longer arms and wheels. I did think about sidestands with wheels but as I go up the ramp from my garage to the room behind where the bike will be I figured the gear could snap on the hump in the middle if you take my meaning. So I'd rather have something in line with the rear wheel. I've already built a turntable I can ride onto and spin the bike around. I just have to get the bike home now and see what I can do. I have joined the National Association for Bikers with a Disability (NABD) and they may be able to assist with a grant for the gear shifter and thumb rear brake. I would also like to build a small reversing mechanism, basically a small motor and sprocket that lowers onto the chain but I'm not sure how workable that would be. I'll post more as and when.
Steve Powick Well it's a beautiful steed there. And it seems you are already getting your thinking head on. This is going to be topic to watch. Regards Joe.
Thanks Joe, she will look nice next to my Triumph 2000 car when that has been restored. Gotta keep it in the family. ; )
