People often post hereabouts enquiring where to find a good mechanic/service centre local to themselves. At the risk of upsetting main dealers, why not post your favourite local mechanic's details here?

Mine is Paul at www.pjmotorcycleservices.co.uk based just outside Thorne, nr Doncaster, South Yorkshire. An excellent mechanic who takes a pride in his work and is not greedy on pricing:cool:. Highly recommended!:grinning:

My last Street Twin service (3 years old) and MOT was done at Stroud Motorcycle Company (http://www.stroudmc.co.uk) located at Bath Road, Stroud, Glos. Good job at a sensible price and as much tea as I could drink. It was a while you wait service and Tim (the sales chap) is entertaining while Mike in the workshop is very good They predominantly work on BMW bikes as that is Mikes expertise but they will service and repair all makes.

Taking my bike to North coast customs tomorrow in Inverness, for its service. I've heard good things about them, so hopefully true and won't cost me a packet.

In Tamworth and predominantly Aprilia specialists but Griff (owner) is just an out and out petrolhead and will service whatever you bring. Knowledgeable but will not rip you off with stuff that doesn't need doing. You wait in the workshop so you can watch what they are doing and can ask questions. They run off brews and Jaffa cakes so be prepared to put the kettle on :cool:

Don't let the BMW specialist bit put you off - Paul does all makes, and is meticulous. I had my Tiger booked with him for service 31st March - rang to say couldn't make it because of lockdown - not a problem - he collected and returned bike back at same price (around trip of 50 miles for him) - he did say he was happy to have work coming in.

Although I usually do my own servicing and repairs/mods, if I need anything doing I go to Pep’s Motorcycles in Preston.
Pep is a great guy, really down to earth and an ex Honda main dealer man, now running his own one man workshop.
He’ll work on anything and is always fair with pricing and generous with advice.....and banter. :p
His work is exemplary; if you see how mint his own bikes are you’ll see how meticulous he is.

I live in Blackpool and I have used Chris who runs C.S.Motorcycles on Poulton industrial estate. I have been using him for 10 years and he is excellent.

That sounds a good deal, what do you get for that money, ie. what’s involved in your 1 year service?
    Thanks,Ken.

    Hi Oz228,
I wasn’t really wanting to see your invoice, more what the service actually involved.

Just had my ditchpump serviced (1 year by independent) and the guy ticked all the boxes in the service book that he’d addressed.
Pretty basic...Oil filter, engine and gear box oil changes and replace front and rear brake fluids.

So was looking to compare your Triumph model ? List of requirements.
    Cheers,Ken.

I use More Moto, run by Paul Holden. He races Street Triples. Based near Diss. Ace bloke. Not the cheapest but he is a perfectionist. Does a lot of race prep work for other people too.

image.jpg Rang a local bike repair man and told him my bike was 1 year old that day and needed a service.
Gave him the bike, he did a service, I paid (Settled a tenner on him for a drink) and collected the bike.

    Bike done 2,900 KM.

Which service do you think he did?
    Thanks, Ken.

Thanks for your reply Doc Strange.
Yes, you’re right, but he didn’t think like you and I, so he did the 6,000 miles service!
This meant he did something not required, but more importantly he missed changing the brake fluid and didn’t change the gearbox oil.
    Lesson learnt for me.
    Ken.
