Just a bit of a mone... It's not that I don't like my 2018 Speedmaster. On the contrary, I love it. It's just the little niggly things like the effect of acid rain and condensation on the cast aluminum engine casings and the thin, poor quality chrome on the wheel rims, and the lack of a center stand. Not to mention the clunky gearbox. The center stand and gearbox are, just simply design annoyances. But the other things are damnd right frustrating. I spent hours cleaning, polishing, and dowsing in ACF50 last November. This year I gave it a good pressure washing and polished up with Autosol and wax. When I come to give it a general cleaning sesh after a run out on Monday. I find rust spots on the wheels and what looked like simple water droplet stains on the engine casings. Autosol and Metal Worx had little effect on the engine casings at all. The best thing I found was Coach Builders Compound G9 and elbow grease but it still has traces of pitting despite the nice, shiny polished ali look. Wheel rims cleaned up with Autosol, but for how long? Does anyone know of a water-resistant treatment that might prolong the effect of water and condensation on these vulnerable bits?

    Hi Max,
I don't have any answers, but hear you and feel your pain on all counts. I had a 2017 T100 that experienced those issues. When I left for overseas work, I'd give most things, including the chain and engine casings a coat of WD40. The chrome wheels and spokes were polished using chrome cleaner and the bike was never left dirty or wet. After 12 months the chrome rim on the front wheel showed rust bubbles and I couldn't get rid of some of the streaks on the casings - so I sold it and bought a Speed Twin. Goof luck with your Speedmaster - they're beautiful Bikes.

Both Mrs FZR and myself took our bikes to Triumph West Yorkshire for the first annual service. Took out a Ducati desert sled and a monster 797. For a couple of hours. Don't think I will be changing for one of those any time at.

Nope, got it in December nice and cheap when the dealer wanted to meet year end targets.
I was waiting for some decent weather to take it out, then got CV19 in the middle of March, shortly after that the lockdown started.....
Good news is it was worth the wait :D

Swapped mirrors over and turned upside down. See behind way better imo and fitted “grip puppies” as recently recommended by someone on here (apologies but I forgot who!)
Grip puppies are brilliant (takes a while for the extra thickness to get used to) and all vibes gone.
worrk with heated grips too (tested and it’s true).

Finally had a little ride. Alps are still snowy on top.
Very good bike. I have time to time problems to change gear (the clutch glues sporadicaly). I maybe need to put another oil or check clutch mecanism. Not a permanent issue. Most of the time it's ok.

Had to go to the office in central London today so took the bike for its first proper ride in my ownership 150 mile round trip which is a great test ride for a bike through country roads, small towns, motorway, and inner city.
The Thruxton handled it all really well particularly pleased with its ability to cope through the stop start of central London
Also gave me a chance to try out the new Bell open face and summer gloves - both performed admirably:)

Today, like half the motorcycling population of England it seems;), I headed up to the Peak District and did a couple of loops of Snake Road --> A628 --> Mortimer Road (AKA The Stines Road); one loop in each direction.

As I find motorways and dual carriageways equal parts stressful and boring, I took the scenic route to get there, so all in all, over 7 hours in the saddle, with another 3 hours in rests, picnicking, and taking in the scenery :) With the perfect weather it was a totally wonderful day. Probably the best motorcycling I've done outside the Scottish Highlands :grinning:

Seams the replacement seat is slightly more comfortable than the old one, though that may be just down to taking regular rest stops and paracetamol ;)
