675 Old Street Triple compared to latest model.

    Sadly the mrs has managed to bin her beloved 2012 purple Street, she us OK but the bike less so. We are considering replacing it with the latest model with ABS as lack of ABS contributed to her accident.

    My question to owners of the latest bike is how good have you found the bike? Has it been reliable? Mrs did 20,000 trouble free miles on hers but as I understand it there are not that many common parts carried over between the models?

    She is not happy that she cannot get a purple model lol.

    I've heard the rumours and fixing is still an option but I think she is convinced she wants a bike with ABS and I would be happier I'd she had it. She loves the Strest so much that nothing much else interests her.
    I'm not sure I would ever go for a brand new model anyway, I'm still scared by the experience of being an early adopter on the first Ducati Multistrada 1200 :mad:

    I believe it's the same engine so reliability shouldn't be an issue
    I had an 08 Street an have ridden the new one when mine was in for a service. I preferred the new one,I thought the riding position was better,though my wife preferred the old one.
    A test ride will be the only solution.
    ABS was one of the reasons my wife changed though she ended up with an 800 Tiger.

    There is a large difference between the engine/gearbox combo on the Tiger 800 pre and post 2015 so I wonder if that applies to the Street triple also?

    Could well be,Triumph do seem to be updating their gearboxes.

    As a side note has anybody noticed that there is now a Tiger 800 Low with a 760 to 780 seat hight

    Yup sat on one the other day, prob 2" lower than standard, really good height for us not so tall riders

    Dropped the damaged bike at Pidcocks Nottingham for an assessment yesterday and also looked at both a low Tiger 800 and a standard Street. The Tiger is certainly more practical for the long distance touring that we do but her hart is still with the Street Triple.

    I know what you mean,it's taken my wife a long time to bond with the Tiger.
    It was a case of having to change rather than wanting to.
    At the end of the day you've got to love it when you open the garage door.
    TBH the Tiger isn't that much slower than the Street,just delivers the power differently and what it looses handling wise it more than makes up for it in comfort.

    Hi

    I have a 64 plate with ABS and it saved my bacon on a couple of occasions.
    I road tested the old model then bought the new version. The longer range of first gear great and the torque on the machine is lovely, you can do 40mph in 5th or 6th and opener her up from there.Not sure if the older model was as flexible as this.

    I have a 2013 street and a 2015 street RX ( only for 2 months), the 2013 has 15000 miles on it now and has been the best dammed bike I have ever ridden and I have been riding 38 years. I can't wait to give the RX a thorough shakedown when the good weather arrives. Hopefully will not experience the abs, this is the first bike of mine that has it.

    Deal is done to px the her lovely (slightly damaged) purple Street for a new Red Street Triple. Dealers workshop is quite at the moment so they are happy to have the repair to work on and also gave us a very good price considering it was a 2012 with over 20,000 miles on.
    Got 'free' cowl, belly pan, and tail cover together with £500.00 to spend on any Triumph extra

    1000 miles clocked up on the the Street and I'm afraid the mrs is not liking the new Street compared to her old one.

    Main complaint is the tall first gear, makes hard work of things in slow traffic and slow maneuvering. Can anyone explain why Triumph did this? Why would you need to do nearly 70 mph in first? May need to investigate altering sprocket sizes??

    Her other big issue is even with the Triumph hugger fitted, when riding in the rain her jacket and helmet get plastered in road dirt thrown off the back tyre. On the previous model the bodywork, hugger and twin high exhausts kept most of it off. It looked like she had been off roading today. Anyone know if bigger huggers are made?

    I agree with that - had the new street r as a courtesy bike when Tiger was getting serviced. It rained on the way back to the dealer (in fact it snowed and hailed aswell) and my jacket was plastered from collar down. Couldn't be doing with that all the time.
