Hi all. I'm in the process of deciding what to buy to replace my Vespa, and fairly high up the list of choices is either an America or Speedmaster - I've always come away from the NEC Bike show with a Triumph brochure in hand, so while I've got the money I think I may well treat myself. I've come to do a bit more research, so I'll have a read through the appropriate forum, and then start asking stupid questions.
Dear Doctor, welcome into the Triumph Playground. Both the America and the Speedmaster are great bikes, very reliable and good to own. Choice between the two is really a matter of personal taste.
Welcome to the land of the living, I agree with thebiglad either bike is a good choice. Vespa to Triumph - even better move. Welcome again
Mine's a modern Vespa - a GTS300 - and while it would be nice to keep it I couldn't justify having two machines in the garage at the moment as there just aren't enough hours in the week to use them properly. Had Piaggio bothered to bring out an entirely new large frame Vespa with more power I'd possibly have been tempted to go for one of them, but they seem to think that a new paint colour each year is enough to keep sales up... I started with scooters, then went through a Cafe Racer style SRX400, a Thundercat and then a Hornet before coming back to a couple of Vespas but now I want something different again.
With no strong preferences either way, it may just be a case of whichever turns up first at the right price nearby.
Welcome Dr. Speaking personally, the Speedmaster is a good ride, I guess the same as the America. The Speedie ain't fast but gets you there in stile and reasonable comfort, the even bigger plus is your graduation up to big lads bikefrom a Vespa, (never been a fan).
Hi doc, expect some stupid answers even if you ask sensible questions but at least they'll come from peeps with experience. Get out and try some, both great bikes
Hi Doc Vespa gives great protection from the elements you will be a bit more exposed on these bikes as well as having to dress to suit, mod or rocker ?? i am sure what ever you choose it will put lipstick on your ears with your big smile
I'm not so fussed about top speed any more - I've had faster bikes in the past but don't need that any more. In fact that's one of the reasons I've enjoyed my Vespa - with 23bhp and an 80mph top speed you can just pin the throttle open without worrying about your licence and life too much, and if you need to go through traffic there's very little that will keep up with one. Anyway, I'm not here to convince people of the benefits of scooters. It's been a very long time since Triumph sold one and I can't see them starting again soon.
Triumph scooters!!! Aaaaaaaaaggggghhhhh!!! The Triumph Tina and the Triumph Tigress/BSA Sunbeam. Best forgotten!
Don't knock a twist and go scooter in London traffic they are a excellent form of transport and cheap to run.
Welcome DR., I had a 2006 carbureted America for 35,000 trouble free miles. Tires, batteries and fluid/filter changes. That's it! Oh yeah. I was really ticked when that tacho back light gave out. Only reason I sold it is I bought 1600 T-Bird, and their missions were too close. Now I picked up a Legend TT that'll do dual sport duty.
Welome Doctor. Good to see you have had the sense to go the Triumph way a t last. Either bike will be a hoot for you I am sure, As you say it may well depend on which bike comes a the best price. Good luck in your choice anyway. ps Any chance you can prescribe me some pile cream, got a bit damp on the bike earlier and the itching has started?? lol
Too much information Dave My dog never uses cream,She just drags her butt across anything that looks soothing or scratchy…………..She got a shock yesterday planted her arse on a crumpled Fanta can in the road verge……never seen a dog accelerate like it[/QUOTE] Your just as bad HT heh heh
