Hi Guys, new to the forum and I've also posted the same thread in the "newbies" section so forgive me for the double post but I thought I might reach more people relating to the scrambler in this forum.

    So the intro....

I've had various types of bikes in the past from sports to classics and currently ride a ktm 950 adv and GG 2 stroke. While I wouldn't sell the 950 as it's been with me on various travels I've got the very strong urge to buy a Bonneville Scrambler. Why? Well I love the look of it :) especially the ones with some mods, also just wanting to chill a bit more and enjoy a different type of riding that what I've done in the past.

I will need to test one first but will sort that from a dealer to make sure I get on with it etc.

I would be using the bike around town, café stops, and the odd weekend camping mostly in the UK and a few trips to Europe thrown in. Nothing off road really just a few gravel type of tracks. I'm experienced off road but it wont really be used for that sort of thing.

So I'm hopeful the bike will ride as I want as I am already sold on the looks, will probably change the exhaust for arrow and do a few mods etc.

Price wise, well looking to spend as little as possible but help is needed.

Can anyone recommend where to start. Are there any model/years that would be best, what sort of mileage is good etc. I don't mind spending a bit more and getting something reliable. Anything to watch out for?

Also if I wanted to just blow the savings where are good places to buy? Is good custom shops I can if I wanted buy the dream bike?

Sorry for all the questions. I'm hoping to stick around when/if I buy my first Triumph.

    All the best

Hello, I just purchased a 2009 T100 that has a Thruxton front end and handle bars. The last 4 years I've ridden Yamaha and Harley cruisers. Now I'm trying my hand with the T100. My goal is to convert it to a scrambler. I aim to adventure ride the back roads and logging trails of the awesome northwest, mostly Oregon and Washington state. Any advice on the conversion is welcome. Money isn't a problem, but the conversion is one I can carry out in my garage.

If your after a bike for A road, and caff style riding, I don't think you can go wrong with the scrambler. I've had mine for about 3 months now and it's great, I changed the tyres (knobbilies) to Avon Trialriders, great tyre, much better grip and in my opinion look the part too. Also if you like it loud, British custom exhausts, mind they are very loud, great. Go for it!

Thanks for the info, especially tires. Do the Avons work well on pavement as well? As far as pipes go, I like them more on the quiet side of things. Thanks

The scrambler is a great bike and there are so many aftermarket parts available so that you could personalize it if you wished, go and ride some first and when you see the bike you like buy it!!

    Hi,
I got a new scrambler just a year ago from Bill Smith's in Chester. Just had it's first service today, still love it! The one thing I would do first is change tyres, the Bridgestones that come as standard are not the best - they look very butch though. There is a thread on this forum about this subject. I did test ride one with the Arrow exhaust didn't notice much difference in power but the noise was better.

Get one! I'm lovin' it! Still early days at 250 miles in, but I like it more each time I ride it. It suits me as a 50-something, to ride at 50-something (plus a bit when needed).

Hi nibby, I've had my scrambler from last November and love it to bits. I bought mine from my local triumph dealership and was lucky enough to get mine at the right time as it was an ex demo. It's in the colour I wanted and with only 300 miles on the clock and because it was a demo bike I got it for a thousand pounds less than a new one. Maybe that's an option for you. Triumph tor exhausts would be next up on the noise scale and you can pick them up off ebay and Gumtree for a good price.
