This happened after I came off a motorway run and was on my way back home. Noticed that the top box looked odd in the rear view mirror and pulled over to find that the tail rack had sheared off on both sides! Only had a pair of waterproof trousers in there, so it -

    - must have weakened over time. Luckily had two cable ties with me and so able to make it home intact.

Problem is that the rack was an original and they just don't seem to be around for the Trident anymore.

Always do, worked for me when the side panel screw fell out stopped the thing flapping about and possibly falling off, plus electrical tape.

There is a 3kg limit on the box (a Givi) Wayne. Only ever had light stuff in it and have never loaded it up with gear - only the helmet and gloves etc.

That makes it even stranger that its broken like that and not even an after sale part. Are you going to weld or look for another one Steve?

Bet if you found a short section of solid steel bar that fitted tightly inside the tube, then bring the two broken bits together and weld it would be stronger than original.

Likewise....I always carry cable ties when I`m off any distance. I always carry some tape called "Rescue tape"....you can get it on the internet for about £6-8, it is amazing stuff, only sticking to itself once the cellophane rapper is pulled of it....great stuff. waterproof, self fusing & it insulates to 8000 volts too. In fact I have showed so many people how good it is that I reckon when I come to use it there will be bugger all left!!!!
With regards to weight limit on a Givi rack, I have often exceded the weight limit by quite a bit & never had any problems, I`m not recommending that anyone does this on here, you takes your chance in life, but I have done it many, many times. Just lucky I guess. But then again I do have fitted to my tiger 800 roadie a SW Motech rack which is I feel a better quality rack over the Givi IMO
