hi all, quick question, I'm going to look at a 2012 tiger, road version, 800 without ABS it very low mileage with baggage and other accs, having survived 45 years without it, would you say it's a reason not to get it?
    Many thanks for your input!

Hi Steve, I would argue that ABS is more important on a bike than on a car. However as you say we've all had non-abs bikes and survived so if the overall deal (condition, value etc) is attractive then non-abs would not be a deal breaker for me. Just remember that in 3-5 yrs when you come to re-sell it all the bikes in competition will have ABS so not having it will hit it's value, imo.

The Tiger XRX that I test rode lengthily was a lovely machine so getting a 2012 - AT THE RIGHT PRICE - will be an excellent bike for you. The latest version is a better bike so take that into consideration in your negotiations.

Thanks biggy I had the same thoughts but I recon I will keep it for a while and use it loads so mileage will be high so resale won't be great anyway. It was more the practicality really.

Not that it affects older bikes but all new motorcycles over 125cc will have to have ABS as standard from 1st January 2016. So bikes without it will no doubt become less desirable.

So the bottom line is.... How much less should a non abs be compared to an abs of exactly the same spec? 500? 1000?

I have a Tiger800 2013, no ABS and that was my choice at the time, ABS on a 2012 bike is not a prerequisite, if you're happy without ABS then go for it, it's a personal thing.

I would love to get a bike with abs and traction control, I think you could learn alot from these tools, about what you can and cant do .
Read an article about a bmw where he started with traction control full on and he could feel it kicking in,so he knew, what speeds and leans he could do according to the bikes computer ,almost like having an instructor there with you.As he got more experince it kicked in less and less .
Just like a rubber ring and arm bands they teach you what you need to know, then you do away with them,( cos swimming the channel with a rubber ring does not count)
Cant afford these luxuries any -way so back to the paddling pool for me. I think Ive got analogy. ha aha ha ha ha hahaha hahahahaha hahahah hahhhaahh aahahhahaha hahahahhah
