The dog in the photo is a 4-year old Tamaskan called Raid (we think - it's what he answers to). Our daughter received a call this morning from the Tamaskan breeder (in Lincolnshire), to say that one of them had been left at a home of last resort near us, and his time there was up - so about to be put down. We live near Newport Pagnell.

The breeder asked us to rescue the dog and take him up to Lincolnshire for eventual re-homing. He seems like a really nice dog - we took him for a walk with our Tamaskan (Tam), and he was fine on the lead. Very affectionate. Though he is clearly under weight and should bulk up a bit with proper feeding - dense fur is hiding how thin he is.

Tamaskans are loyal and intelligent, but need lots of exercise - they like working or doing obedience training, and do get bored if not out for regular walks. Our Tam gets lively when bored, but has never been destructive.

They rarely if ever bark, which is a bonus unless you want a vocal guard dog. They have Husky in their DNA, so can pull quite hard.

Anyone seriously looking to re-home a dog, and have the time and energy for a Tamaskan, Raid would make a good companion, in my opinion. I'm about to set off on the 5-hour round trip to Lincolnshire... ...reluctantly - I rather like Raid already.

P.S. his last owners had to move from a house to a flat and weren't allowed to have pets.

Unfortunately, we didn't get too far before we discovered that Raid had eaten too many sausages as treats and we got them back again on the back seat of the car. So I returned home and for tonight at least, have two dogs.

    Not an ideal situation. :(

I know it's not funny really Jock, but it did sound a bit funny when you talked about the in's and out's of sausages :D:D:D:D

I'm sure, if my daughter has done a good job of cleaning up the car, I'll find it funny...

...eventually. I did feel sorry for the dog too.

He has settled down, and is an obedient dog. He does sit, stay and shake-a-paw for me, which is more than I can say for our Tamaskan.

Hopefully, Raid is going to a new home today. He is such an affectionate and attentive dog, I'm really going to miss him. But he is strong. I took him for a mile and a half walk before breakfast, and I'm knackered now - though he is good at wait & cross at road crossing - but likes to get a move on when we're going.

Unlike our Tam, he looks you in the eye for reassurance that he's doing the right thing, or if he needs directions on a walk, such as at a junction.

A youngish couple are taking him on.

He really took to his new owners, and went off with them, tail wagging, and without even a backwards glance.

    Wife in bits, me...

    ...I'm admitting to nothing :(

How can I be missing the big, bulldozing lummox?

    But I am

I had to re home our Cocker Spaniel Marley in September 2018 when he was a year old, long story short our circumstances had changed, daughter moved out, wife had to go full time at work, this meant the dog spent too long on his own, not fair at all :worried:. A friend of a friend had recently lost his dog, he had not long retired from the Army, we met him and his wife who were lovely people, and Marley took an instant shine to them :).
They ended up taking him, I admit to crying like a baby when he left :sob:, but it was the best thing for Marley, he now lives just near a beach on the Isle of Wight and gets loads of walks and swims (he always loved water!). We get regular updates, pictures, videos and stories of mischief on 4 legs from them, I look forward to these updates & seeing them convinced me that I did the right thing.

I am so glad that Raid found a good home, it is always good to hear a story like yours @Biker Jock, thanks for sharing.

There is a Tamaskan owners group that meets up in Epping Forest occasionally. Our daughter is hoping to persuade Raid's new owners to bring him along to the next meeting (dunno when that is). If so, we'll get photos and I'll post an update.

It's been 4 days since he went to his new home and our Tamaskan is just beginning to coming out of the depression she went into when she realised her new best pal had gone. It's quite astonishing how she's missed him.
