    Hi all
    My brother has a america
    It keeps losing one cylinder
He’s been told his igniter has failed
I’ve tried to find one but keep hearing things about crank firing orders
Does anyone know where to purchase a aftermarket new igniter?
    Cheer all in advance

The 270 degree motor has an ignition coil (£60) for each cylinder. So who told him the igniter has failed? Is it the same cylinder or variable? Furthermore, it could be the pick up coil ((£40 crank position sensor) on its way out.
Before shelling out £220 I would want a better diagnosis. The coils are notorious for going intermittent before total failure and can usually be checked for resistance values with a £10 multimeter......

Is it carbs or efi? https://www.triumphtwinpower.com/triumph-america-speedmaster-carb-ignition.php

He took it to a local bike shop
I mentioned pick ups but the shop said the pick up does both cylinders so if the pick up fails you lose both cylinders
It’s always the same side and we’ve changed the ignition coils over whilst it wasn’t firing and the good coil wasn’t firing
    Cheers

Ok. Do both coils ignition on have battery voltage at the low tension +ve terminal ?

If the non firing coil doesn’t it would point to the igniter. Carb or efi?

I had a duff coil on my speedmaster (same engine and electrics) but if you swapped them and same result could ponit to igniter, but as said by Callumity you need to check all the other componentsfirst i.e. plug connectors etc.

I had a remapped TTP igniter on my speedmaster and it was a big improvement on the OE map.

    Sorry my bad
    It’s carbs
    Carbs are fine
There’s no live feed on the side with the problem to the coil

Thanks for sharing this info Callumity, I take it the TTP products are a vast improvement over stock

It is the same Gill product but with an ignition curve designed for riders not regulators.....

That feed is from the igniter that chops it when it should fire..... live to other coil points to internal igniter fault.

Try some contact cleaner on the Igniter connector first and if still not there, try a resistance check from coil feed back to connector, pins 8 and 15 feed coils colours are yellow/black and yellow purple.
