Hi Guys, I'm going to start looking around for a second hand 2006 maybe 2007/8 if the money is right, scrambler and wondered what if anything should I keep an eye out for? What goes wrong? what is a good mileage to look at? What sort of mileage will they do without problems? I know these are all dependant on various things but just want to make sure when I'm looking. I have also thought about a nearly new T100 2015 model and wondered if I would be better with this that a 2006 scrambler. I will be doing some custom work to the bike when I get it so really want to judge the engine and how long they will last rather than on the looks etc. Any help appreciated. Best
Cheers HT, great help. I'm thinking the same and my first thought was at least a 2006 Scrambler, more torque sounds good and suits me. I think I like the idea of carbs being a bit old school, good to hear about being bullet proof, will see what the price's are like and then start modding
Hi Nibby, Steve has, as always, put his finger on this. These Bonnys are strong bikes, will take a fair bit of abuse, are easy to work on and have a vast network of suppliers to make your Scrambler, YOUR Scrambler ! Better way to go I reckon.
I've had 2012 Scrambler since June and have to say have loved fiddling and modding mine to get it how I want...keep saying to the wife "this is the last thing I'm going to change..." Time to stat sneaking stuff onto the bike...
Thanks guys, good to hear. I think I was worried that it's a 2006/7 that I'm looking at and that mechanically they might have problems but all sounds good to me so you are right, I'm going to spend the extra that I might have spent just buying new to mod the bike to make it look the dogs. Watch this space.....
The engines on these biles are very strong and don't display any inherent problems as far as I know. A 2006 bike will be a carb model (I think injection came in 2007/2008). I had a 2004 Bonnie and the carbs are easy to work on ie. change jets and needles, adjust idle etc. Once synchronised properly they don't really go off and should be trouble free. Not ridden an EFI Bonnie yet, but apparently low speed throttle response is smoother with carbs (although this can be rectified on the EFI model by removal of the secondary AI system (I think). Many people buy the Bonnie - more of them about - and then mod it into a Scrambler style bike. The (in)famous Beckham Scrambler is actually a modified Bonnie.
Hi and welcome I love making my speed triple mine all triumphs deserve to be modded Go buy a scrambler and get modding
Right then, decision made, on the hunt for a good used and the modding will start soon afterwards thanks for all help everyone.
