    Hello,

I posted early last year about a 1970 Bonneville I purchased. Finally had some time to work on it to prepare it for the spring : new chain, tires, inner tubes, points/condenser, rebuilt carbs, new mufflers, etc.......I drained the fork fluids and got some water. I know they take 200 cc each but can't find what kind of fluid.

Also, I would like to inspect the front brake pads and there is a 1-1/8" nut on the shaft. I believe I read its left hand thread . Is this correct ?

    Thank you in advance.

    Mark

Hi Mark, 190cc is the correct amount of oil for the forks and 20 or 30 fork oil will be fine. The nut retaining the back plate is right hand thread.

    Thank you.
It was a good find, 3600 miles and tool kit. I believe the mileage is correct because the original dry rotted Dunlops are barely worn. Rear shoes are also barely worn. I've got my fingers crossed......

Yes, I'm one of those guys "keep 'em original" kind of guys.....points, condenser, no upgrades.
I do whatever is necessary to maintain them using OEM parts wherever I can source them .
It's been a challenge with the old car 'cause the repro parts are mainly junk so now I'm hunting for Triumph NOS items along with E-Type NOS items.
I enjoy working on them as much as I do driving and riding. It's challenging but very rewarding to repair / restore resurrect old parts motor cars and bikes.

You do have better suppliers in the US than here in the UK for NOS Triumph parts.

Welcome back. You have two of the best Brits that in my opinion ever left the Factories. And that E Type is something else. I bet you always have a crowd around it. Do keep us up to date on the Bonnie..
    Regards
    Joe.

I have to agree classic and iconic English design.

Good time to hunt for one, the market has softened......

Not over here Marco, :( You can spend Thousands and Thousands of pounds for an old classic, that only cost a couple of hundred brand new. When I think of the bikes that I've had in the past, that I've let go for buttons........ Well I can't think about it, It winds me up .

I will have a bet with you that almost every member on here could tell the same story. But it's the past and it's gone. Don't fret about it. You are healthy and happy with what you have live for the moment.
    Regards
    Joe.
