Well I finally got my bike together and have been riding it. 2014 Storm. If I turn my left signal on it works fine. If I turn the right signal on it flashes once and now the left one doesn't work. If I wait a while the left one works again. So I can't use my right turn signal at all. If it was a flasher I would think that both signals would not work. There may be a relay involved. Thoughts ? JJ
A friend of mine had a similar issue with his T/B some time ago. Unfortunately he is now living abroad and I can't get in touch with him but if I recall, it was down to the self cancelling feature playing up. Can't help any further I'm afraid.
Just been doing a little research and it appears that the Storm does have Auto Cancelling indicators...however, they can be disabled/enabled so it might be worth taking the handbook out of its wrapping and checking. As far as I am aware the Storm is simply a bored out version of the original 1600 so I cannot see why it would not have them.
Different bike, but I had a recent issue with an indicator bulb not flashing, which seemed to be solved with dielectric spray followed by acf50 to the electric connections in the headlight.
Good point, I downloaded a copy from somewhere on the net Direction Indicator Switch Note: • This motorcycle is equipped with an indicator self cancel system. The system becomes active eight seconds after operating a direction indicator. When the indicator switch is pushed to the left or right and released, the corresponding direction indicators will flash on and off. The indicator self cancel system becomes active eight seconds after operating a direction indicator. Eight seconds after turning the direction indicator on and when the motorcycle has travelled a further 65 metres, the indicator self cancel system will automatically turn off the indicators. The indicators can be cancelled manually. To manually turn off the indicators, press and release the indicator switch in the central position.
Well,I have to take it to the Stealer since my guys can't fix it. It goes through the ECU so they have to hook it up. Gonna be big $$$$$$$$ to fix a simple safety issue. NOT impressed with Triumph on this so far. In the past my mechanic would search his drawer full of relays and blinkers and find something that would work. So have an electrical problem on a Triumph. Just like you would in the 60's and seventies except it's harder to fix on my "modern" bike. JJ
Nope. I rode it 2600 smiles using hand signals for 2 weeks. I had to put a tire on and it's been raining a lot. I'm going to wait until fall to bring it in. I have other old bikes to ride then. They'll get jealous if I don't ride them. JJ
It's in the ECU. I will bring it in when the snow leaves in April. What a drag. Other bikes I've owned I would just find a bad ground or replace a flasher. Not on a Triumph though. On a Triumph it will be an expensive fix.
Jammin John Try all your connections properly and clean. Also try running a separate earth form the light units to the bike see if that cures it. Regards Joe.
