I found the Chromebook too limited. Good compromise is the Microsoft Surface Go (not Pro). Even the 64GB one is perfectly good for everything you want to do. Get an Office 365 subscription and an optional keyboard (it is touchscreen) and it is a great little tool. You can add a very cheap 64GB/128GB memory card for extra storage if you need it. Apps are limited to the Microsoft Store to keep it from getting too bloated but you can bypass that if you wish but it is a one time deal.(search Windows 10 S-Mode if you wan't to know more) If you have Netflix you can download and watch off-line and they play back very well on this from the MS Netflix app. Very handy for the Mrs in hospital for 10 days where the wireless wasn't good enough for streaming. My daughter has one for college too, she has a daily 4 hour bus commute and carrying a full size laptop was going to be a chore. Battery lasts for ages too.
