On Sunday had a great 45-mile bimble with Mrs on our Hon*a CB1100A in the New Forest (for those interested route was Bashley-Brockenhurst-Reinfield-Lyndhurst-Minstead- A31-Burley-New Milton). Excellent little roads.

As a matter of interest, is there any discernible heat on the low setting? My hot setting is akin to a good warm IMO, but low barely registers at all.

I’d agree with that. My hot setting is similar to Mrs Frecks VFR on 3 out of 5. Not great really.

Thought I would pop by the forum and say hi again. Mrs is still riding her Street Triple, I've now acquired a triple but a Yam one.

My non-Triumph is, er, a Ford. Today I took it back to the dealer I bought if from a few weeks ago as the front tyres keep losing pressure. Good job I went there and not to a fast-fit place as they ended up replacing the whole valve stems, including the TPMS senors, as the muppets at Ford Direct damaged them putting replacement tyres on when they prepped it for the nearly-new market. Will check them in the morning. Fingers crossed as the rest of the car is great.

Had to spend the whole morning killing time in Marlow and unless you like shopping for over-priced clothes the place is a waste of space beside the Thames.

My tpms is a 99p stick gauge. I can’t believe how overpriced that useless piece of tech is. How hard is it to just check them every once in a while? Goes along with all the other “must have” electowizardry we have been convinced we need. My current Jeep has power steering and ac, the first one I’ve had that fancy. It also has a manual gearbox, crank down windows, and no carpet. Less stuff to tear up and I can repair what does myself.

Got my daughter her first car last month, a 2001 Peugeot 107
Yesterday I replaced the headlight units as they were badly glazed and micro cracks so very poor light
New units are much safer toddy I intend to get the engileboil and filter changed and also gearbox oil. Then if time the rear bearing hubs using my new 5lb sliding hammer to get the old ones off

Edit: she just passed her theory test this week and needs more experience on top of the 1hr a week with the instructor

Shopping for over-priced clothes used to be one of my hobbies, Sir Trev. Until I raised the bar and started shopping for over-priced motorcycles. ;)

Quite agree. I check my car tyres at least weekly with a stick gauge and have done since I had my first car. Check the bike before each ride too. I have never relied on the TPMS alone and as I always buy nearly new cars I get whatever some other muppet decided spec-wise. A real down side to TPMS is I don't think I can rotate the wheels to even out tyre wear... Will have to find the manual and check that.

Good observation, Adie. You caught me on that one. ;) I was lumping shoes into the clothing category...a faux pas on my part. Shoes should stand on their own (no pun intended). Relatedly, motorcycle boots are also in their own fun little "shopping side trip" category. :)

My car has TPMS and the tires have been rotated multiple times over the years. Not sure whether that's the case with all makes and models and tires but hopefully it can be done on your car.

I've had TPMS save my bacon a couple of times when I've picked up a nail and my pressures were fine leaving the garage but dropped rather abruptly while out commuting. Otherwise I'm with you about checking pressures myself. I probably should check my car tires more and guess I rely a bit too my on the TPMS. But I check my bike tires before every ride.

You're right, DD. That's a way more appropriate name. I've checked my pressures when I didn't have a TMPS warning and they were down by anywhere from 3-5 psi--a level at which I'd certainly air them up. So it would seem that my TMPS system, like Mrs. DD's car, only sounded the alarm when the a tire was even lower than that. :( So maybe another fitting acronym would be ITPMS? Insensitive Tire Pressure Monitoring System.

Brrrrr! Glad I saw your post, thebiglad. It reminded me to pull my heated vest out of the closet just now and top off the battery for today's ride up Mt. Lemmon. Temps will be nice off the mountain in Tucson today (60-80ºF) but cold up top at 8000-9000 feet (50'sºF). Still not as cold as 4ºC!

The wifey says I’m weird when it comes to cars, but I can tell when a tire is getting low by how it handles. A 5 psi drop or more with either of our autos and I’ll notice, check them, and sure enough one will be low.
