    Hi there

I'm Martin , I'm 31 years old and have just got into biking.

I've been driving for 13 years, including lots oh high powered cars.

In August I decided to do my CBT. When I passed I got a new Suzuki GSX S125 to learn on.

Having covered about 800 miles I've decided to do!l the DAS. Mod 1 is booked 30th Oct and mod 2 7th Nov.

Now the mad part. I love the triumph brand. I've put my deposit down on a 2011 Speed Triple R with about 19k on the clock. It's it going to be too much for a first 'proper' bike?

Oh and I've bought some arrow cans!

    Hi Martin and welcome.

Superb bike. I don't think you're mad, after passing my test I found larger bikes so much easier to ride, better handling and more confidence inspiring... you'll just have to be careful to control your right hand, and ride within your limits.

Well done on the choice of bike And welcome to the family. Bike is only as fast or dangerous as the rider. You will be fine just get to know it and its traits and you will be fine. Do keep us all in the know. Your picture will go down well in the asylum as the inmates ogle that picture the nursey will get a quite round.
    Ride Safe & Enjoy.
    Joe.

Hi Martin, nice Speedy. A friend of mine has the 3-into-1 Arrow on his 1050 Speedy and it looks and sounds great, your cans will give it a nice note..
Just remember that these triples come with loads of torque that will get you into trouble more than the power, so take it easy and don't crack it open whilst cornering!!

Thanks for the warm welcome folks.

Really looking forward to getting the test done. You're all quite right, it will go as fast as I want it to. I like to think I'm quite sensible at breaking myself into things gently

Big high performance bikes have lots of torque, hp and engine braking but be aware they have massive brakes as well. High power cars is of little experience value when it comes to bikes.

I waited 55 years to get my bike license, I don't have the balls for a fast bike like yours. Just as long as your ego doesn't take hold you should be fine. I read somewhere 80% of bike accidents happen on corners, 50% of which involve no other vehicle, as a precaution just go on straight roads, risks minimised, now thats science:p

Now all you need is £5M for insurance

Hi Mate & Welcome to the Forum  Not mad mate, but just resist the temptation to run before you can walk, build up speed slowly, remember that the Speedie will out accelerate all but the very top supercars.

    Hi, Youngster!

Just remember accelerating is the easy bit.......you are planning a fairly rapid route of self education.

    Buy a copy of this
    http://www.roadcraft.co.uk/motorcycle-roadcraft/
and bother to read and digest it. White lines, wet leaves and manhole covers you once ignored will take on Halloween significance.

And remember too that the human body does not like rapid deceleration. If you have the imagination to see potential hazards you can neutralise them.

There is enormous fun to be had but respect the risks. Was that old enough for you?!
