Hey everyone I have just joined the forum as tomorrow i pay for my bike. Its a standard brand new street triple abs 2015!

now this is my first actual bike and i am only just starting my direct access... i had a moped a few years ago for about a year but have been driving a car for about four years since.

now the street triple is the reason im doing my direct access i literally love this bike and have never wanted something so much, no other bike compares to it for me.

most people i have spoken too in person say its a relatively small engine now a days so be sensible and i should be ok. however in excitement after googling all things street triple i keep seeing people advising this not to be a good first bike and its made me slightly worried, not worried enough not to go ahead and buy it but just wondering if anybody had one as their first bike in the past and how they got on?

im so excited but nervous too so maybe the nerves will be a good thing and keep me as safe as i can be?

also im short lol just under 5'7 and the seat height is 820mm should this be ok? i have seen lowering kits and will get one if i find im uncomfortable. i have sat on one but it had the stand down so not really sure? but again if anyone has some experience with this that they could pass on id be really greatful.

    thanks everyone :)

    Adam

Hi Adam, first of all welcome in to the Triumph playground.

The Street Triple is one of those very few bikes that can be ridden perfectly safely as a newbie, but can be kept as your abilities grow and you will come to learn what a wise decision it was, buying one.

Get your bike, get your license and above all, have fun.

It's a machine, a nice one admittedly, ride it to your capabilities and not the bike's and stretch it gradually and you'll be fine

Wise choice, best of luck with her, just remember the only thing to watch out for is the nut between the handlebars and the seat. They are out there. You seem to have yours well fastened so just take your time and enjoy the ride.

Maybe once you've passed your test and are up and running - you could do one or two riding skills courses , I don't know what the availability is down where you are , but if the local feds do a bikesafe that might be worth a go

As it is a new bike that you are buying, take the opportunity to get to know it at 'running in' speeds, and as your skill builds up so will the speeds that the running in procedure allows, so you get faster/more experienced together. Both you and your bike require gentle use at first. Don't try to run before you can walk (metaphorically speaking - obviously!).
As the late great Mike Hailwood once said ... "the throttle works both ways" (with reference to racing on the Isle of Man - if I remember correctly). :)

Hi and welcome and good luck with the test and the bike.
Just take your time on the test (both modules) and you'll be fine.

Good Luck for the DAS etc!

Enjoy the bike when you get it.....as many others have said, whether the bike is too much for a first bike or not is more about your attitude to riding than anything else!

thought i would give a little update: decided to buy a little 125 as still waiting to start the direct access he is taking his time about it thats for sure. given me some good practice already bought it ladt friday amd probably done over 200 miles covered the whole island ventnor was lovely yesterday and i actually live in godshill! will sell it on and use the money for my insurance on the street!

think the police one is called bikesafe but could be wrong, am definately going to discuss it with my instructor when i get there, hope theres one that can reduce your insurance!? but hearing its not the case anymore.

Well done Adam, 200 miles on the IoW you must have got dizzy riding round in circles for so long! My memories of the island was, it was my first trip on a motorbike, I'd only had it for a week, '74 I think, anyway having ridden it down from london I got over to the island, by ferry,!, and came across my first corner in open country, I ended up in the hedge, wasn't the only time either, love to take my thruxton back one day, not to the hedge that is!
