Street Twin Accessories Tried & Tested.

    I posted this elsewhere but I think I gate crashed someone else's thread (apologies if that's the case). Thought I'd give it another go so that more people have a chance to read about what I've done to my 2017 black Street Twin, in case anyone wants advice or info about any of the parts I've used.

    Triumph spoked wheels (added these as part of the original deal), bar-end mirrors, barrel grips (reduce vibes that were numbing my hands). TEC Parts shocks, end cans, oil filler cap, paddock-stand bobbins (spindle through rear axle. Motone petrol cap (black to replace cheap, nasty chrome thing & no key needed), X-pipe, tail tidy (I tested a prototype for Sam at Motone and got a discount), indicators, brake light. British Customs chain guard, 'dress-up' shock bolts. Down & Out brushed ally front guard. LSL brake fluid reservoir (to replace fat, ugly plastic original). Square Deals adjustable clutch/brake levers (black), carbon side panels.
    Bought a used, original seat and had a local seat maker rebuild it to my design.
    Switched the circular, black covers on the engine cases for brushed silver/gold ones from the Thruxton.
    Many changes are obviously cosmetic, it looks more stripped down and aggressive; a better mix of old style and new, which is what I wanted. Engine response is sharper and certainly better with the X-pipe and end-cans. And the sound is wonderful!
    Had second thoughts about the carbon side panels. Possibly a step too far, although I wanted rid of the 'Street Twin' logo. Motone replacements arrived today.

    Discovered on the first day, on the twisty, lumpy roads round here, that the rear shocks lacked damping but the bike didn't warrant pricey Fox replacements (this isn't a sports bike and I've got 2 of those), so TEC shocks are a sufficient improvement.
    I was a little aggrieved when Triumph introduced the upgraded model, which addressed the ST's lack of power and handling (which they must have been aware of). I didn't want to fall into their trap of changing bikes, so made alterations which get it at least part way there...and mine looks a hell of a lot better! Subjective I know.
    All original parts are stored but I can't see me ever switching them back but maybe they will help resale value (however, if anyone wants to make me an offer for the originals let me know).
    Finally a lovely, small, totally illegal black number plate with silver letters&numbers (switched for MOT's) completes the picture..probably.

    I knew someone would say that! Haven't got any recent pics showing all the changes but I will endeavour to take some as soon as it stops raining. I just hope posting pics from a Mac is easy on this forum, I've found it very tricky on other forums. Things seem to be geared for PC users, while us users of vastly superior Mac systems get ignored :p On the other hand it could simply be down to my own IT incompetence :laughing:

    Going back to the ST, I forgot to include TEC Parts adjustable rider footpegs and (non-adjustable) pillion pegs. Also the new Motone side panels fit well and are a big improvement over the carbon ones.

    Ah, thankyou for that, I think I even understand what you mean! When I get the pics I'll give it a go.

    Hi Beerkat
    How do you get on with the TEC adjustable footrests ( not pillion ones)?
    What adjustments did you have to make to the brake and gear change pedals?
    Just wondering if they will fit my 2019 ST !

    The TEC footrests work well. The actual part your foot sits on can be rotated so you can set the angle to what suits you best and the whole bracket can be moved up/down and backwards/forwards. The peg flips up like the originals. They've got a grippy metal surface, not rubber.
    No adjustments to either brake or gear change pedals, no need to touch them at all. Fitting the TEC parts was pretty straightforward and took me about 30 minutes. I'm very happy with them.
    I don't think Triumph made any changes to that part of the updated model so they will fit yours. You could always email or call George at TEC to make sure.
