Hi anyone have a idea what is wrong.
The bike started a bit sluggish went about 2 miles then looked down lost digital dash engine light come on and eventually pulled over and bike battery was dead.
Is it just the battery or is it alternater? Not charging

Well, you should start by identifying your bike year/model

Definitely Charging System problem - dash going off is first indication

Haven't looked at the video above but here is simple <1 min for stator

    Leave Switched OFF!
    Disconnect stator from R/R
    Set meter to read resistance
Read between any ONE of the three terminals going back to stator and engine ground - this reading should be 'open' (infinite resistance, same as if your probes not connected to anything)

If reads 'open' then stator is good
If reads 'short" (zero ohms or close to zero) then stator is fried.

Not further testing is necessary to determine stator pass or fail.

If not the stator, then by default would almost certainly be the R/R (but do check the wiring and connectors for any potential burning issues there) - also start with simple things first - like the fuses!
(ID of bike model and will tell you if a fuse can cause this issue - some Triumphs have dedicated fuse, others have a shared fuse and would not turn on at all if blown)

Not clued up with testing electrics but did put some charge back in battery and it started and led display back on but still have engine light on.
Will go to a autoelec garage and see if it's getting any charge back to battery. I wouldn't know where to start
Thanks for your reply will pass info on to a sparkie mate

I put it on trickle charge for 2 hours ! bike is a 2007 model one of the last Daytona 955i models
It normally sits on a optimised all the time so still not sure if battery is knackered or it is more involved

Yes could just be a duff battery. And if you got it running well again you will most probably have to do the 12 minute runs by starting the bike without any throttle or help let it run 12 minutes till the fan kicks in let it cool and repeat and third time either let it run till till revs drop and a quick spin or repeat the 12 minute run time to reset the cdi and digits.
    Regards
    Joe.

@joe mc donald - 12min tune does nothing on a sagem equipped bike - that only applies to keihin models (1050's etc)
Also @Andy rushmere - doubt this is a battery issue - the signature is 100% indicative of generating system failure - and it would be an 06 model even if not reg until 07 - certainly the best of the Daytonas

Most likely your battery is ready for the bin. Get a fresh one. Go for a few ( 2-3 runs) and the engine fault light should go out.

Have charged battery and run bike for few minutes and looks like no charge is going back into battery so now thinking must be alternater or rectifier?
Will this have to be a main dealer job?

Do you mean the rectifier as the battery isn't charging?

Sorry - You can't make that conclusion without any diagnostics or data - it might be but it could also be the stator ,,,,,, or even as simple as the fuse.

Thats true, but knowing these bikes chances are 95% thats what it is. Could also be connector from the stator burnt out and this could be an additional problem too.
As could be the stator burnt my money is on the reg rec. Ofcourse a test over the battery is a good start.

Do you know where it is positioned?Just been away for a week so not had chance to look at bike , after looking round bike is the rectifier under the rear seat on ine side as it looks like it.
I know the older ones are under tank so maybe they have moved it to a better position?

Andy it is in the LH side rear panel when you are sat on the bike.as Decosse says it is definitely charging. I would start by checking in the fuse box and the charging circuit fuse may have started to overheat. (mine did this and blew the fuse, my Reg/Rec was fine but I replaced it and did the wiring mod to prevent it happening again) I ended up getting a Yamaha R1 reg/rec and the small harness for a daytona675 and by passing the main loom. I am sure Decosse will be able to give the details.( or just google 955i charging mod)
It is unfortunately a common problem
