Hi all.....after some advice, if you don't mind. My front brake has recently become very poor; lever can be pulled up to the bar whereas, previously, I could two finger brake. I have bled the brakes twice and this solved the problem for a couple of days before the problem returned. The pads should be fine although I have not checked these - not too many miles on them though! I am led to believe that this is likely to be the master cylinder and/or hoses; however, how can I tell one way or the other? If it is the master cylinder, I have seen kits to replace the internal washers/springs - is this a good idea and, if so, how easy is it to replace these as I am not really the hands on kinda fella?

As always, any help greatly appreciated!

Don't mean to be rude Deano, but if you're not a "hands-on kinda fella" you shouldn't be working on a crucial system such as brakes.

Hahaa....I take your point but it was really just a post to see what action to take before passing the bike to my more technical brother.

I had the same problem on my speedtriple, bled the brakes, changed the seals etc. I found you have to "centralize" the pistons in the calipers regularly as the pads wear on certain models. I use a screwdriver to gently push the pads and pistons back from the disc, then pump the brake leaver a few times to bring the pads back out. You may have to work round all four pads several times before the lever tightens up.

obviously check for any leaks, however minor, do as the other have said but I would run new fluid through the system and get all the old out as it could be contaminated if it is old
some guys bleed the brakes then pull the brake on and cable tie the lever to the bar overnight which helps somehow
