Good day all! Currently on a ride from home in Montreal Canada to New Orleans though the Appalachian mountains (skyline to Blue ridge mountains) will be heading black up the USA East coastline back home. My Scrambler 1200 Xe is a beautiful machine... no issues whatsoever with it besides engine “ clacking” that occurred inconsistently in first gear upon take off. First time it’s happened was as soon as I left the dealer now at 10’000km and seems to be happening more. I’m not lugging the engine.. so that’s out of the equation but definitely a loud clacking sound which I feel come from engine. Asked dealer about it but he’s not familiar with the bike enough yet? I’ll be visiting them when home on a few weeks but thought to track out here to see if anyone has had similar issue?
Danny, one thought I had was to check chain tension. Too loose and it can cause the sound you described. Also check for a tight link that can “skip” the cog and cause something like this. If the chain was too loose at the beginning after 10k it could be worse with wear, causing the issue to get worse. Same with a frozen/tight link.
Thanks for the info. Just tightened chain to the recommended 1” travel. The clacking is from within the engine. Would anyone know who I could reach out to at triumph direct?
Cam chain? Hope you get this sorted, as I would think any 1200 twin riders will be interested to know what the cause is? Oh and welcome
