    no
HID's are actually cooler. Maybe the ballast gets hot? but not the bulb.

I reckon it's the covers that let the lights over heat through lack of cooling.

I've had Philips White vision in for a year / 5k miles now without problem. They quote a bulb temperature of 200c, as wattage is standard I imagine bulb temp is about standard too.

Obviously protectors are going to reduce any air cooling but lens needs to survive a degree of stationary use.... but very likely we're looking at a wiring/switch fault here.

Just looked it up and after market HID's can have a surface temperature close to 800°c and the plasma arc created can reach 4,000°c. a minute source but very HOT indeed!

Well, polycarb melts at ~150 deg. C. I am surprised it is not more of a problem.
    Maybe not Polycarbonate ?

Thanks for everyone's replies. I have given up on Triumph for help and replaced the lights myself the
Speedy is still the best bike I've owned shame about the lack of support from Triumph.

Make sure you check out your bulbs are working as they should...or you'll fry another set of lenses!:eek:
