i have a 2004 triumph sprint st 955i . when going through the starting procedures i have to wait for the instrument panel to turn on, allowing me to start the bike. when cold i can wait 5-15 seconds ... when it is hot it can take several minutes (5+Min) often leaving me wondering if it will ever allow me to start it!
    anyone seen this?

should i replace the ignition relay?
    main power relay?

    thoughts?

    Hi and welcome in.
It may be better to post in the technical help pages. We dont all look in the newbie bit and I'm sure you will get more feedback there

Hi Joe, welcome to the forum :grinning:
Can you give us some more information, do you hear the fuel pump run when you switch on? Do you have any lights on, neutral, oil pressure etc, or do they not come on until the instruments do?
Have you tried flicking the kill switch off and on? Does this happen every time?

    Welcome!
That is certainly an odd one - have NEVER come across that one where it will eventually come on if you 'wait for a bit' (that's comforting news right? :D)

The first thing is there is absolutely no temperature affect from a control perspective - so something in the hardware is definitely amiss.

First question - is there an Alarm fitted to this bike? If so I would start by looking there!!!

So the dash coming alive is actually just your visual frame of reference - the dash itself has no impact on the ability to run., but it IS showing you that the Ignition circuit is ultimately alive

Can you tell me - in this 'waiting' state are the headlights on? (actual headlights, not just the mini park bulbs)

Do you have a voltmeter? If so I can direct you to some test points that will help narrow down the issue.
You want to start with checking the voltages at fuses 5 & 7 - this will confirm at least that the key-switch and the main power relay are operable
Note to check voltages at fuses, leave them installed in the panel - put the meter black probe on battery negative and touch the red probe to the exposed metal tabs at the tops of the fuses. You'll need to check these while it is in 'fault' mode of course.
The next one to check would be the green/red wire at the Fuel Pump connector (again measure to battery negative NOT to the other terminal) - this will then tell us if your ignition circuit is open
if you HAVE voltage at fuses 5 & 7 but NOT at the Fuel Pump connector Green/Red that points to
    a) The Alarm (if fitted)
    b) Ignition Relay
    c) Fall Detect Switch (Tip Over Switch)
