Here I am again with another question about my '04 955 Speed Triple, about the headlights this time. I rode it a couple of times in the dark over winter and the lights were almost useless, not able to ride at over 50mph on the backroads. First thing is the left light comes on when you start the bike when on dip beam, if I switch to main beam the left light goes out and the right one comes on. Is this how it is supposed to be? It doesn't seem right to me, what is the point in having bulbs with dip and main beam filament if only one is used for each light, you have two headlights on your car but not one for dip and the other for main. I was out with a mate at the weekend on a similar age Speed Triple and when he was behind me I noticed that both his headlights were on, he said it was like that when he got it. I wondered if I had a blown dip and main in each headlight so I bought some new bulbs and it's still the same. Can anyone throw any light on this (sorry that was bad wasn't it!)
This sounds a bit like early Fazer lights. With them you can buy a short loom which links into the bike's loom and makes both lights operate on dip and main beams.
Yes something like that would be ideal if it's available for the Triumph, anyone know of such a thing?
Thanks for the link, that looks like the very thing I need, I will have a quick check under the seat to find the two vacant relay sockets and order them up. I will keep you posted on my progress.
The relays arrived today, just finished fitting them took about 15 minutes, job's a good 'un two lights for dip and two lights for main just as it should be. Apparently that's how they were up 'til '01 model then they went to the one light for each beam so the relay bases are there and it's just a case of plugging the relays in. Many thanks to thebiglad for the info.
